Children who will start at Elmvale Primary in August had a lovely visitor to see them in Nursery recently. Mrs. Corrie has been meeting lots of children who have enjoyed showing her their special books. We hope that you all have great fun on your school visits coming up soon and want to thank Mrs. Corrie for her visits which mean a lot to the children and their families.

An Exciting Parcel
An exciting little parcel arrived in Nursery last week which caused everyone to stop and look carefully. It was our own little tub of caterpillars to help our learning about life cycles. The children are keeping a close eye on them and already they have grown considerably. Why not ask the children to show you them in Nursery and see if they can tell you what is going to happen next to our caterpillars?
Baby Talk
One of the Health and Wellbeing learning outcomes at Early Level is to show an awareness of the tasks required to look after a baby so we thought that there could be no better way to find out about this than to invite Miss Awde in to Nursery with her beautiful little baby. The morning children had lots of good questions for Miss Awde as they thought about the differences between themselves and a baby.
Miss Awde and Devon are coming back in this week to visit the afternoon children so they will be able to ask any questions they may have then. Thank you Devon for being a super visitor and for bringing your Mummy with you. We are looking forward to seeing you again soon.

Seed Planting
After learning a little about Vincent Van Gogh, the children have been planting sunflowers as well as painting them. We have talked about what they will need to do to make their seed grow and about the different parts of a plant so hopefully the children should be able to look after them when they bring their sunflowers home soon. We look forward to hearing about some super sunflowers or even seeing a photo once they begin to grow. Fingers crossed that they can be planted outdoors and turn into a lovely burst of sunshine in a corner of everyone’s garden.
Transition Visit
The children who will soon be making the transition to Primary 1 at Hecklegirth have had another visit to the P1 classrooms to become familiar with their new environments. As you can see, they settled in well and were confident to try out a range of activities including, in some instances, having their snack in Primary 1. Everyone is looking forward to their next visit.
Garden Delivery
Thom’s family has been looking at the photos of the children busy with the new bark in the garden:
“Thom was very keen to show me the big blue bag when we walked past it on our way home, I notice though he wasn’t there to help with the hard work! I’m surprised as he usually likes getting mucky! We happened to be passing when the truck brought the next bag and he was very pleased the driver waved to us.”
Lots of the children have been helping to spread the next delivery as part of their play. What started out as a little hill of bark is slowly being dug, raked and spread to make a much improved base for our digging area so well done to all those children who have been helping out.
Certificate Smiles
What lovely smiles from last week’s certificate winners. Well done to both of you.
Outdoor Teamwork
There was great excitement earlier this week when a delivery of bark and topsoil arrived to top up our outdoor area and its arrival was all the more exciting when it was delivered over the hedge by a lifting arm.
A team of hardworking gardeners was then on hand to carry the bark to the areas we needed it. As you can see, we saw some great teamwork as spades and rakes got into action, the barrows were filled and were tipped across our digging area. Thank you to everyone who helped – you did a super job. The good news is that we had another delivery today so we will need to get our sleeves rolled up again over the next few days.
