Outdoor Fun
Just like the morning children, those in the afternoon sessions have been experiencing a range of outdoor activities. Some investigated the sensory flower box that we planted last year and then decided to draw some of the plants, others tried out scooters or put the diggers into action in our mud area. We hope that everyone is enjoying seeing snapshots of the children happy and confident in the Nursery environment at the end of their first week.
Outdoor Play
As our first week has progressed, most of the children have taken the opportunity to explore the outdoor area so they are learning to change their shoes and put on outdoor suits when they are needed. Some are developing their confidence on the big climbing frame, others have practised their ball skills or made birthday cakes in the mud kitchen. The outdoor area is certainly a very popular place to play. Here are some of the morning children busy outdoors. We will post photos of the afternoon children soon.
Role Play
Role play develops children’s social skills, creativity and imagination. It provides opportunities to play out events that they have observed or experienced in real life and to express their feelings and ideas in a relaxed environment. They can apply and practise life skills as well as develop their literacy and numeracy skills in so many contexts in the role play area. Here is a little gallery of the various roles the children have taken on in our role play area – don’t they look the part so busy in their play?
Sunny Seats
Teamwork, creativity, imagination … there are so many exciting areas of learning that develop outdoors but sometimes on a sunny day it’s just good to have a rest and take it all in. These photos were taken on a lovely warm afternoon towards the end of term and show different ways the children took a little time out from their busy play to relax in the sun. Play is hard work and it’s good to have a seat and a rest at times.

Afternoon Graduation
As promised, here is a selection of photos of the afternoon children at their graduation ceremony yesterday. Just like the morning children, they made us feel very proud of them all. Photos of our award winners will follow soon. We hope that you enjoyed our end of year celebration and would like to thank all our families who have provided such wonderful support.
Graduation
We were all so proud of the children at our graduation ceremony today as they sang and danced to celebrate their year in Nursery. They showed great confidence to perform to their families and then to walk on stage on their own to shake hands and receive their certificates.
Thank you to Mr. Palmer for taking time to present the children with their awards and for being so patient to pose with each child so that a precious family photo could be taken. Thank you also to all the family and friends who attended our little ceremony and for your support throughout the year.
Here is a gallery of the morning children. I will put photos of the afternoon children on as soon as possible.

School Lunch
Last week Hecklegirth families joined their children to sample a school lunch in preparation for the move to Primary 1 in August. Pizza and chips or delicious sandwiches were on offer and I spotted some tasty looking chocolate cake, grapes and yoghurts for dessert which seemed to go down well with most children. Hopefully everyone is now looking forward to their school lunches when they come to Primary 1 in August.
