Happy Reading

We hope that you are all enjoying your summer holiday with your families and that some of you are taking part in our Family Learning Reading Challenge. Lots of the suggestions look like great fun. I wonder if anyone’s read under a table or to their pet yet? Sitting on the grass or on a rug to read also sounds like a lovely challenge for sunny days. Remember to fill in the challenge sheet and return it to Nursery or your Primary 1 teacher by Friday 28th August to enter the prize draw to win a book token. Happy reading everyone!

Skills For School

We hope that those who attended the Family Learning “Skills For School” workshop today found it helpful to prepare their children for Primary 1. Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, will be running another session tomorrow (9.6.15). Check for spaces on the noticeboard in the corridor if you have not yet signed up and would like to take part.

Family Fun

Kacey’s Mum’s been enjoying having a look at our photos.

“Kacey loves the family learning activities (so do I) our cress is still alive and growing on our window . Sadly the pumpkin seed isn’t so well as she was a bit over enthusiastic in watering it, we will buy some more and try again!”

“Well done everyone on the family fun day everyone did great despite the weather being cold and windy, I think the only people that noticed was all the adults that came to watch.”

We did wonder how the pumpkin seeds would do – that’s a shame if it’s not survived. I wonder how other people are getting on with their seeds?

Growing and Planting

To link in with our learning in Nursery, growing and planting was the theme for a recent Family Learning activity led by Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator. The children and their families enjoyed a range of activities which included cress planting and a paper plate craft activity to show the life cycle of a butterfly.
Eileen’s next Family Learning days are already planned for the 8th and 9th June when she will share ideas for skills for school. All parents/carers are welcome regardless of which school your child will be moving to. Please add your name to the notice board in the corridor if you would like to join Eileen and other parents/carers. Thank you, as always, to Eileen for offering these super opportunities for everyone.

Family Growing Activity

We would like to remind everyone of the Family Learning growing activity next week.
On Monday (11.5.15) there are sessions at 9-10, 10.45-11.45 and 12.15-1.15.
There are two afternoon sessions on Tuesday (12.5.15) at 12.15-1.15 and 2.15-3.15.
Finally on Thursday (14.5.15) there is a morning session at 9-10.
If you have not signed up yet, there are spaces available in some of the slots – you can add your name to the notices in the corridor leading to the Rainbow Room cloakroom. We look forward to seeing lots of families joining in with Eileen’s super activities.

Easter Crafts

Two of  our parents have left comments about our Family Learning Easter activities:

“Thank you Eileen for our Easter craft session. Callum especially enjoyed the sing song.”

Summer’s Mum said, “A bit tricky to get elastic on the mask but all great fun for Easter!”

I remember that elastic being tricky but I’m glad to hear that you all had fun.

Easter Family Activities

Last week twenty nine families took part in our latest Family Learning activity which was to make Easter crafts. Cotton wool, glue and elastic featured heavily and, as you can see, the children had great fun producing their bunny masks and Easter wristbands. Thank you to Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, for providing a super activity for families to enjoy together and thank you also to everyone who came along to her sessions. We hope that you had fun.

Family Breakfast

We have had two comments about our recent Family Breakfast. Eileen, Family Learning Co-ordinator, liked the tattie scones that Mollie made:

“The heart tattie scones look lovely. Thanks for the photo.”

Kacey’s Mum enjoyed our breakfast:

“It was lovely to see lots of adults at the nursery breakfast KACEY enjoyed trying all the different things ,her favourite was the raisins.”

We were delighted to see so many families join us on those days too. It was great to have the chance to spend more time with everyone.
