We hope that those who attended Eileen’s celebration of Read Aloud Day enjoyed themselves. That Elmer book did seem to be capturing the children’s attention when I called in. Unfortunately Eileen had to postpone the afternoon session as several children or parents were ill so she hopes to reschedule it for another time when you are all feeling better. Thanks again to Eileen for organising another great idea.

Afternoon Pancakes
The afternoon children enjoyed a Pancake Day breakfast with their families just like the morning children last week. Here you can see them tucking in to the pancakes, crepes and fruit then performing an impromptu song to entertain us all. Thank you to everyone who was able to join us – it helped to make this a lovely social occasion for the children.

Thank you For Your Comments
Owen’s family has been looking at the photos of the monsters that the children made at home:
“Owen really enjoyed this task, he didn’t want to do a scary monster which is why he did a ‘friendly’ robot which he calls Stuart. Great for their imagination!”
We loved your monster Owen and think that it looks just like a Stuart – good name choice. Well done!
Kacey’s family enjoyed the Pancake Day breakfast:
“Thank you for inviting us for breakfast it was really lovely.”
It’s great when we can get together for these little social occasions. Thank you to all those who were able to join us.
Pancake Day Breakfast
Last week’s Pancake Day breakfast was well attended by parents and grandparents and we thank you for your very positive feedback. The children seemed to enjoy trying out the different food options and it was lovely to see everyone enjoying a chat over their breakfast. Our singing had not been practised but the most of the children showed themselves to be confident to contribute to a little performance in front of an audience. Thank you to Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, for organising this event. We appreciate all her hard work and hope that you all enjoyed yourselves. Here are the morning children enjoying their breakfast. Afternoon photos will follow soon.

Read Aloud Day
We would like to remind you that Eileen, Family Learning Co-ordinator, is holding an activity tomorrow, 16th February, for Read Aloud Day at 11.00-11.45 or 12.15 – 1.00 when you will be able to join her for a story, activities and crafts.
Pancake Breakfast
We would like to remind everyone about our Pancake Day Breakfast tomorrow (Monday) at 9.15 and 2.15 in the school dinner hall. All the children will participate and they will be joined by those parents who would like to be part of this event. We hope that you are all looking forward to a delicious Pancake Breakfast.
Parents as Early Education Partners (PEEP)
PEEP is for parents and children (age 5 and under). Meetings are once a week for about 40 minutes. At these meetings we will be learning through playing, singing, telling stories and generally having fun. Your child will join you for part of the session.
If you are interested in PEEP and would like more information, please pop in to the Family Learning room tomorrow, 15th January, anytime between 11.00 and 3.00 or on Tuesday, 19th January, between 9.00 and 1.30. Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, will be ready with a tea or coffee to explain what you would be doing in these sessions. Children will not join you for these initial sessions. We hope that lots of parents/carers pop in for a coffee to these drop-in sessions to find out a little more as they sound like good fun and will help your child’s learning.
If you cannot come tomorrow or Tuesday but would like more information, please contact Eileen or leave a message with Nursery staff.
Story, Rhyme and Number Sacks
Please remember that Eileen will be in the Family Learning room (opposite the school hall) tomorrow (Tuesday) to give out story, rhyme and number bags for your child to take home. Each story/rhyme bag has a book and a game or puppets connected to the story/rhyme. The number bags contain a game and all can be borrowed for one week.
If your child attends Nursery in the mornings, you can collect a bag at the end of the morning session and afternoon children can collect their bag at the start of the session at 12.15. We hope that lots of families will take the opportunity again this term to have fun with learning at home by borrowing these bags and we thank Eileen for organising it for us.
SHANARRI – Staying Safe
As part of the Nursery Improvement Plan we will be working with Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, later this term to share the SHANARRI ethos with parents and carers. There is a link on the right under “Useful Reading” called “Girfec leaflet” which explains this. Last term we also began talking to the children about these wellbeing indicators to gauge their understanding initially of what being safe means for them.
We thought we would share some of the ideas that the children came up with.
Wareeshah: we don’t run away.
Mollie: don’t go on the road.
Ben F.: holding a grown-up’s hand.
Finn: don’t bang heads.
Henley: don’t run.
Jayden: stay away from water.
Grant: I don’t go too fast when I’m on my bike.
Euan: stay away from fire.
Ellie: stay away from under the sink. There’s stuff there that hurts you.
Jenson: sit on your seat properly.
Ewan: don’t jump off the edge of a cliff.
Aoife: Mummy and Daddy keep you safe.
Erica: don’t touch knives or you’ll get cut.
Kenzie: walking is safe. Follow the Nursery rules.
Hannah: stay away from the edge of the harbour. If you fell off you couldn’t get out.
Rory: stay with your Mummy near the river.
Finbarr: don’t run and don’t jump down mountains.
Orla: stay on the paths.
Sian: don’t go next to fireworks.
Luca: you need to safe in a house – safe from black ice.
Chloe: it means you don’t get runned over.
Joshua: you stay safe in the line ’cause people hold hands.
Dylan: stay inside so cars can’t get you.
Ben W.: stay in the house ’cause you might get hurt if you’re not with your Mum and Dad.
We were very impressed with all the different ideas that the children produced about staying safe. We will be looking at more indicators with them next term and look forward to hearing their thoughts.
Well Done Everyone!
Kacey’s family has been looking at some of our photos and commented on how she enjoyed our recent Family Learning activity:
“Kacey enjoyed making her Christmas decorations ( so did I) we had a great time , sadly our rain deer nose didn’t last very long so we made him a non edible one!”
Kacey’s Mum also wanted to congratulate everyone on the fundraising efforts for the Carlisle flood victims and for the performance at Annan Day Care Centre.
“Well done guys! It’s so nice to hear there’s so many kind and thoughtful people around….x”
“A www so cute! Well done everyone…..Merry Christmas…x”
The children have certainly made us so proud in lots of ways over the last week or two so a huge ‘well done’ to all of you.
