This week the children enjoyed some fun activities to help them learn about looking after their teeth, healthy diet and what happens when they go to the dentist. Toothtastic Tuesday was organised by Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, Jacqueline and Nikki from Childsmile and the Nursery staff and it was lovely to have around 20 parents join us on the day to help the children as they moved round the different activities.
The dentist’s role play area was very popular, as you can see from the photos, and Jacqueline helped the children learn why the dentist uses different equipment. We really appreciated her bringing lots of masks and mirrors so that each child could try out the equipment and understand that everyone needs a new dental mirror and mask to avoid getting germs.
There were also puzzles, a drawing activity, an opportunity to use the big teeth models to learn how to brush properly and an activity to measure out the number of spoons of sugar in different foods and drinks. Hopefully the children have learned which drinks and food are healthier for their teeth.
Thank you very much to Eileen, Jacqueline and Nikki for all their help and equipment. Thanks also to those parents who joined us on Toothtastic Tuesday. We think that the children had a fun learning experience.
Here are some photos of the morning children busy at the various activities. We will post photos of the afternoon children in the next few days.

Toothtastic Tuesday
We are looking forward to Toothtastic Tuesday tomorrow at either 11.00 – 11.45 or 12.15 – 1.00. Childsmile staff Jacqueline and Nikki have worked with us and Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, to arrange some fun activities based on keeping our teeth healthy. Thank you to those parents who have returned the slip to say that they will be joining us. We are looking forward to seeing you there.
Christmas Family Learning
More parents and grandparents joined the children on Friday to take part in the Family Learning ‘make and take’ Christmas activities organised by Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator. We hope that your wreaths are now adding to the festive decorations in your homes. Thank you again Eileen for organising these fun sessions. Everyone seems to have thoroughly enjoyed them.
Christmas Family Learning
Thanks must go again to Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, for providing super Christmas activities for children and their families to enjoy together. As you can see from our photos, Christmas wreaths and Rudolph sandwiches were being made earlier this week and they certainly look like good fun.
It’s lovely to see so many families participating, despite everyone being so busy at this time of year, and we really appreciate Eileen offering activities on several days. Tomorrow brings more sessions so we hope that those involved enjoy their Christmas ‘make and take’ session as much as these families did.
Christmas Make and Take
Eileen Johnstone, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, has added two more sessions for the Christmas Make and Take activity to help out those who were not available on the original dates. You can also now take part on Tuesday December 13th at 9.00-9.45 or 12.15-1.00. A new grid has been added to the others on top of the trays in the red and blue cloakroom so please feel free to add your name if you have not already chosen a slot.
Activity Bags Library
We would like to remind you that tomorrow, Tuesday 22nd November, is the first day for our activity bags “library”. The bags will be given out from the Family Learning room opposite the school hall.
If your child attends morning sessions you can collect a bag at the end of the session from Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator. The bag should then be returned the following Tuesday at the start of the morning session. Please leave the returned bag on your child’s peg and Eileen will collect it from there.
If your child attends Nursery in the afternoon you can collect a bag when you bring your child at the start of the session. You should bring your bag to the Family Learning room when you collect a new one.
If you would like an activity bag but can’t collect on a Tuesday please let Eileen know and she will try to make alternative arrangements.
Happy Families
We have had more lovely comments on the recent Family Learning activities.
“Harvey (M) and I really enjoyed this make and take session and look forward to doing some more!”
“Joshua (H) loved this day doing make & take. I enjoyed it myself also, getting to spend a little bit of time with Joshua making things & seeing how much he enjoys doing things like this at nursery. Thank you for that opportunity.”
“The leaf lantern and chocolate sparklers were really easy to make and we have made lots of chocolate sparklers at home!😋
Thank you Eileen for this session we really enjoyed it.”
I spoke to Eileen today about all the positive comments that had been posted about her activities and she is very grateful for all the lovely feedback so thank you to everyone. She is doing these activities in another school this week so we hope that they enjoy themselves as much as Hecklegirth families did.
Thank You
Olivia’s family enjoyed Eileen’s activities on Friday:
“Thank you Eileen, we had a fabulous time! The leaf lamp takes pride of place on our fire place. We also made a huge batch of chocolate sparklers today that Olivia gave out to her family to celebrate bonfire night, although ate quite a few herself!! 🙂”
These chocolate sparklers seem to have been very popular. That was a nice idea Olivia to make them for your family – I’m sure they enjoyed them as much as you did.
Family Fun
Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, organised more sessions of her Autumn Make and Take activities on Friday. We hope that all these families enjoyed themselves as much as those earlier in the week. It has been lovely to see so many taking part.
Family Learning
We have another lovely comment about the recent ‘Autumn Make and Take’ activity:
Lily really enjoyed the family learning and said “when is the next one going to be!”
We are glad that Lily enjoyed herself and hope that Eileen will be able to organise another Family Learning activity in the near future.
