Today we celebrated Burns Day with shortbread, oatcakes and cheese and, of course, Irn Bru. We appreciate everyone making a super effort to provide the children with ‘a touch o’ tartan’ as it added to the occasion. Thank you also to all the family and friends who came to hear the children sing their Scottish songs. It’s so important for them to have an appreciative audience and you certainly helped to make it a memorable occasion for them. Here you can see some of the morning children enjoying their celebration. Afternoon photos will follow soon.

Scottish Celebration
We would like to remind everyone that we will be holding a small Burns celebration in Nursery tomorrow, 26th January. It would add to the occasion if the children could wear a little ‘touch o’ tartan’ if possible to help us to celebrate in style but the main thing is simply to come and enjoy the day.
The children have done well this week learning their Scottish songs and are looking forward to performing them tomorrow to their families at the end of the Nursery sessions (11.45 and 2.50).
Winter
As part of our learning about winter, the children have been experimenting in the art and craft area to create a range of winter pictures. We love that they all look individual and hope that you enjoy their creative ideas.

Reindeer Food
It’s been a busy few weeks in the lead up to Christmas. As well as preparing for our Christmas celebration and having fun at our parties, the children enjoyed a variety of Christmas activities in the craft area. Here are a few photos of them busy making reindeer food and tree decorations from bread. We hope that your trees look lovely with their new decorations and don’t forget to put your reindeer food out tonight boys and girls – hopefully all that glitter will help Rudolph and his friends find their way.
Christmas Celebration
We have some photos of the children as they prepared for our Christmas celebration with their families. We hope that, like us, you were very proud of them all as they behaved and sang so beautifully in front of a big audience. Thank you so much to Rev. McGougan for joining us and to the many family members who helped to make this a special occasion for the children.

Christmas Celebration
We hope that you are all looking forward to our Christmas celebration later this week. Afternoon parents can join us on Wednesday (17.12.14) at 2.30 and morning parents on Thursday (18.12.14) at 11.30. The Nursery door will be opened for entry through the usual entrance and parents/carers can park in the John Bell car park.
We are keeping our Christmas celebration informal to encourage the children to enjoy a relaxed and happy performance of the songs they have been learning. Rev. McGougan has kindly agreed to join us again, despite a jam-packed diary, and we are delighted that many of our families have indicated that they would like to be part of our celebration. As you can see, the children are practising to make sure you enjoy their songs. We look forward to seeing you later this week.
Sticky Kids Christmas Show
Great fun and laughter was had by all at the “Sticky Kids” show this week. It was lovely to join children from other local nurseries in a super Christmas celebration of singing and dancing. As you can see, several of our children showed great confidence to go on stage as part of the show and everyone sang enthusiastically along with all the songs. Thank you to all those families who contributed to the children’s calendar enterprise project which paid for this show. We really appreciate your support and the children all had a brilliant time.

Reindeer Sandwiches
Thanks must go again to Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, for providing super Christmas activities for children and their families to enjoy together. There were reindeer sandwiches, Christmas cards and decorations on the go in the Family Room and they all looked like good fun. It’s lovely to see so many families participating, despite everyone being so busy at this time of year, and we really appreciate Eileen offering so many sessions. Even Steve the Star from the Sunshine Room made an appearance and seemed to be very interested in everything. We are already discussing the next Family Learning activity so watch this space early next term.

Festive Families
We would like to remind you that Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, has arranged activity sessions to get you in the festive mood by making Christmas decorations. In the past lots of parents and children have enjoyed doing this together and we are grateful to Eileen for providing the opportunity again this year.
You can join in the fun with glitter and glue on Friday 5th December, Monday 8th December or Tuesday 9th December. There are still some spaces left – just add your name to the list on the Family Learning notice board in the corridor.
Kandinsky Comment
Mollie’s Mum enjoyed the photos of outdoor Kandinsky painting:
“Mollie and Orla look like they are having great fun painting outside! Mollie enjoys painting very much.”
The children did really enjoy trying to paint on a bigger scale in the garden.
