Thank You Luca

We would like to thank Luca’s family for all the lovely art and craft activities that they donated to us recently. Lots of the children have been enjoying the Christmas crafts over the past week and have been taking great care when making decorations. Here are a few of the children busy at work, producing some great decorations for our Nursery tree and for their trees at home. Thank you Luca – everyone is enjoying your kind gifts.

Family Christmas Crafts

We would like to remind you that our Family Learning Christmas craft activities will be running on Monday and Tuesday of this week (7th and 8th December). Those who have requested a place, should initially make their way to the Family Room then Eileen will collect the children from Nursery when you are ready for them. We hope that you and the children enjoy these festive activities.

Frosty Scenes

The corridors of Hecklegirth are looking very festive now and we have put up a display of some of the children’s recent art work in school. As you can see, there are many ways to make snowmen and winter trees so well done to the children for producing individual pieces of work. You can have a close look next week if you plan to come to the Christmas Fayre – look for the board opposite Mrs. Alexander’s office. Until then, here is a taster of some of the children’s art.

Snowmen Everywhere

Lots of snowmen have been appearing in the art area of Nursery lately and it’s great to see the wide variety of ideas the children can produce to create their snowmen. Paint, cotton wool, material, glitter, twigs – anything they can find to experiment with has been put to different uses to create some wonderful individual works of art. Look out for lots of snowmen appearing in the school corridor and around Nursery soon.
If you click then click again on the photos, you should be able to read the names on each piece of work.

Nursery and Primary 1 Hallowe’en Fun

Great fun was had last week with Early Years Hallowe’en activities. Primary 1 visited Nursery to decorate biscuits and Nursery children enjoyed craft activities in the Primary 1 classrooms. This was a great opportunity to build the confidence of the children to work in different environments and with different people. As you can see, they got right into the Hallowe’en spirit. Thank you Mrs. Lindsay and Miss Campbell for welcoming the Nursery children into your classrooms.

Arcimboldo

As part of our learning about Autumn at the end of term, we looked at some of the work of the artist Arcimboldo. We looked closely at his “Autumn” portrait on the Promethean board to see how he used food to depict the seasons as faces then we used food to make our own portraits. As you can see, some of the children have been inspired by learning about this artist and have produced some super work.

Super Contribution

Last week’s award winners were presented with their certificates by Rev. McGougan at our Harvest celebration so we decided that they should be given to children who had made a super effort to contribute to our singing practices. We hope that they were especially proud to receive their awards in front of a big audience. Well done all of you for your great contribution.

Dingle Dangle Scarecrows

The work on Autumn Flower and Princess Rosie, our two scarecrows, motivated some of the children to create scarecrow pictures in the craft area of Nursery. They used a range of materials to create their own design and produced individual and creative pieces of artwork. A selection of the children’s work is on display in the school corridor, as we wanted to share their great ideas, so keep an eye out for them if you are near the school office.

Thank You

Thank you to all those children and their families who kindly donated to our Harvest collection. We feel sure that all the food will be much appreciated by Annan Food Bank. Many thanks also to Rev. McGougan for joining us in Nursery for our Harvest celebration.
We really appreciated your fantastic support in providing a wonderful audience for the children today. It was a lovely opportunity for us all to gather together to celebrate Harvest and we hope that you enjoyed the children’s performance as much as they seemed to. One of our aims is to develop ‘confident individuals’ and many of our children showed themselves to be exactly that in their performance. Well done boys and girls!
