You just never know what great ideas the children will have in a Nursery day. Here are some lovely photos of the day the children in the Sunshine Room decided to stage a concert. They worked well together to organise themselves into performers and audience, taking turns and discussing what songs they would perform. Some used instruments and some added a dance to their act but all had great fun, showing confidence in their performance and appreciation of others in their concert. Well done everyone who took part – you were a great team.

Clothes Shop
After discussion with the children, our role play area is being transformed from a Chinese restaurant to a shop. They are keen to have a clothes shop where they can experiment with lots of different outfits and we would appreciate your help if you have any unwanted items you could add to our shops.
We are looking for ties, sunglasses, shoes (adult or child), wigs, hats, jewellery … anything you think the children would enjoy trying out in their clothes shop. As you can see, the shop was popular when we set it up on Friday but it would be great if anyone could add to our stock.
Musical Magic
The Rainbow Room children were very lucky recently to hear some genuine Scottish fiddle music when James’ Mum came in to play for us. They learned lots about the fiddle and seemed particularly surprised to learn that the hair on the bow was from a horse’s tail. They saw what music looks like and enjoyed clapping along to a great variety of Scottish tunes. We talked about how different pieces made us feel and James Mum was even kind enough to play “Three Craws” so that we could all sing along. Just when we thought that there was nothing left to be amazed at, James’ Mum produced a penny whistle and let us hear what that sounded like.
We would like to thank James’ Mum very much for spending time with us and providing the children with a great experience. Thank you also to her superb assistant James who was so good at holding the music and made a great attempt at being a musician himself. We look forward to hearing his performances when he is a little older.
More Marvellous Monsters
Just when we thought we had seen all the wonderful monsters we were going to see, another two little monsters arrived in Nursery today. Well done both of you – we love your monsters too.
A Budding Artist
Chloe’s family liked the photo of her painting her tartan:
“Well done Chloe. A budding artist. Xx”
She certainly looks the part. Keep up the good work Chloe.
Monster Fun
Neve and Kacey’s families have been looking at our monster photos:
“Neve really enjoyed making her monster loved sticking all the sticky bits on”
“Kacey had great fun making her Loch Ness monster..x”
We love the monsters – they are all so different. It’s been great seeing what everyone has been doing at home.
Hecklegirth Monsters
Thank you so much to all the families who worked with their children to produce such wonderful Hecklegirth monsters. We think that they are all fantastic and it has been clear how much the children have enjoyed this activity by the enthusiasm they have shown when telling us about them. We hope that you enjoy our monster gallery.
Lovely Singing
Noah’s family has been looking at the photos of our Burns celebration:
“I really enjoyed hearing the lovely songs you’ve been learning!
I hope Noah didn’t eat all the oatcakes!”
Thank you for coming to hear the children sing. It makes such a difference to them to perform to a lovely audience. All the Scottish food went down very well with everyone which was great to see.
Tartan Art
As mentioned in a previous post, the children have been keen to access the art area lately as they have used different techniques to design their own tartan. Here are a few of the Rainbow Room children busily working away as well as a small selection of their work.
Kind Comments
We have had several comments on our Burns celebration photos.
Olivia’s Mum said, “Lovely picture! So nice to see Olivia with a happy, smiley face!” and “Well done everyone, Olivia’s aunty and myself really enjoyed your Scot’s singalong!”
We are glad that you enjoyed the singing – we thought that the children showed great confidence, especially as they did not have long to practise.
Thom’s Mum enjoyed the photos too – “Nice Photo of two good friends;-) Ha, Thom said he wasn’t going to have Irn Bru because the bubbles went up his nose last time but he obviously decided to give it another go..”
Yes Thom seemed happy to give the Irn Bru a second chance. It’s nice to have an occasional treat although some of the children seemed to think the next day that Irn Bru was now a daily option and were surprised that we had returned to the milk/water option.
“Looking very smart Dylan said he had a good day joining in Burns celebrations and he enjoyed tasting the oatcakes and in bru.I was really gutted that I couldn’t make it to join in the celebration to watch and hear everyone sing but I’m sure everyone would of done really well. Dylan certainly practised plenty and we have loved hearing him practise learning new words and songs
“
The children did look great so thanks to you all. Great to hear that Dylan has been letting you hear the songs at home.
