As we are talking about minibeasts and lifecycles in Nursery, the children have been taking the opportunity to learn about symmetry in the patterns and colours of butterflies. They have used different ideas to create their butterflies which have provided variety for our colourful display.

“Sunflowers”
Having been inspired by our recent discussions about Vincent Van Gogh and his “Sunflowers” work, the children have been keen to create their own sunflower artwork which is now part of a beautiful, bright display alongside some of their daffodil paintings. We would like to share a selection of some of their art but please take the time to have a look at the display in Nursery too.
Sunflower Seeds
As they have been learning a little about the artist Vincent Van Gogh, the children have been planting sunflowers seeds after looking at his famous painting of sunflowers. We have talked about what they will need to do to make their seed grow so hopefully the children should be able to look after them when they bring their sunflowers home in a week or two. We look forward to hearing about some super sunflowers or even seeing a photo once they begin to grow. Fingers crossed that they can be planted outdoors and turn into a lovely burst of sunshine in a corner of everyone’s garden.
Easter Art
As the children started to think about Easter at the end of last term, some experimented in the craft area to design their own eggs and create Spring flowers. We thought we would share a few examples with you this Easter weekend. Click then click again on the photos to see the names of the artists.
Lowry Art
Towards the end of term we were learning a little about the artist, L. S. Lowry. We compared the scenes in his paintings to Annan and talked about his life. Charcoal and chalk were used to produce our own art work in the style of Lowry and we have put some on display in the school corridor. Can anyone spot their picture here?

Our Community
Learning about our community last term inspired the children to make models of some of the buildings we had talked about in Annan. After looking at photos of various familiar landmarks, they set to work in the art and craft area to make their own versions so we had our own little town comprising the police station, Greencroft Medical Centre and several other well known buildings which the children then used as part of their play. If you click on the photos to make them bigger you will see the great detail that the children put in their work.
Easter Crafts
A few more families joined Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, on Friday to make Easter crafts and they seemed to have good fun, just like those earlier in the week. Here you can see them busy making Easter bowls and pop-up bunnies. Thank you, as always, to Eileen for a great family activity session and to all those parents and grandparents who took part.
Family Easter Crafts
Tuesday saw the first Family Learning sessions to make Easter bowls and pop-up bunnies. It was lovely to see Mums, Dads, aunties and grandparents all joining the children, as well as little brothers and sisters, for the ‘make and take’ activities.
Thank you to Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, for providing a super activity for families to enjoy together and thank you also to everyone who came along. The next sessions are on Friday 17th March at 9.00-9.45 or 2.15 – 3.00. We hope that you have fun.

Singing and Dancing
Finlay’s family liked the photos of the children singing and dancing on their stage:
“Finlay loves to sing and really enjoyed performing with his friends at nursery.”
You certainly were putting on quite a performance boys and girls. It was lovely to see your confidence.
Song and Dance
Give the children a stage and they are keen to perform, be it singing or dancing. Here are a few snapshots of them in action earlier in the term as they produced their own song and dance routines, showing themselves to be the confident individuals we are trying to help them develop into. I wonder if any of these children will be performers when they are older?
