The morning children from the Sunshine Room visited Annan Court Care Home on Friday to perform their Christmas songs to the residents. This was an opportunity for the children to develop their confidence and to be part of the wider community.
It was a joy to see the delight that our little Nursery children gave to the elderly ladies and gentlemen and their singing and behaviour was superb. They also showed good manners when given juice, crisps and sweets from the staff so we were very proud of everyone who took part. Thank you so much to the staff and residents at Annan Court for making us feel so welcome – we loved your singing too.
Well done boys and girls for showing yourselves to be responsible citizens, effective contributors and confident individuals. You certainly earned those certificates.

Nativity Gift
Nursery now has a beautiful set of knitted characters from the nativity story thanks to Hannah and her family. The children have loved playing with them, which they can do without fear of breakages, and it has provided a great opportunity to talk about the Christmas story. Thank you so much to Hannah and her family for this kind gift which we feel sure will be popular in Nursery for many years to come.
Carlisle Flood Donations – thank you!!!!
Here is a post from Mrs. Alexander to thank everyone who has kindly donated to our contributions to the victims of the Carlisle floods. It was lovely to see so many of the Nursery children and their families participating. Christmas Jumper Day photos will be posted here in the next few days.
The school communities of Hecklegirth and Eastriggs have generously donated over 200 Christmas gifts to Norman Street School in Carlisle. Hecklegirth also raised £237 from a Xmas jumper day today which was also donated.
Mrs Alexander and Miss Aitken travelled to Carlisle with our van man, John Gray, of DB Schneker who kindly donated a van. They saw first-hand the devastation the floods had caused. They were warmly received by the staff and children of Norman Street School and the headteacher explained that they were surprised by our visit as they thought people had forgotten about them now that the rain had stopped. Several staff were in tears, moved by your generosity, as bag after bag of gifts was pulled from John’s van!
Thank you so much to the school communities of Eastriggs and Hecklegirth – plus a kindly last-day donation from neighbouring Cummertrees – for helping make Christmas happen for the people of Carlisle. You truly have made a difference.
The rain has come and it has tried to do its worse. But without the rain there would be no rainbow.
Be proud, folks.

Christmas Jumper or Non-Uniform Day
Please bring a £1 donation per family to take part in our non-uniform/Xmas jumper day on Monday 14th at school and Nursery. Funds raised will go towards the Carlisle flood charity. Don’t panic if you don’t have a Xmas jumper- wear tinsel or just sing a carol!
Any last minutes presents or donations can be handed in to the office by Monday morning as Eastriggs and Hecklegirth Primary staff will be taking the huge pile to Carlisle in the afternoon- Norman Street School are delighted to have us help. If you have a present for a child, add the suitable age on the label to help them sort them out.
Many thanks for your generosity. We are proud that our community is so keen to help others in need.
Christmas Sales Team
Our chocolate Christmas shapes seemed very popular at the Christmas Fayre today and were sold in no time. Well done to our great sales team who you can see here and to all those children who helped to make the chocolate.
It was great to see lots of Nursery children and their families visiting the Fayre too. We hope that you all enjoyed yourselves.
Christmas Fayre
With the school Christmas Fayre tomorrow (Thursday), we have been making chocolate Christmas shapes to sell on our stall. Discussions about what would happen when we put chocolate in the microwave then the fridge developed the children’s learning about sciences. We also used numeracy skills to count the squares of chocolate as well as reading the dial to set the microwave so there was lots of learning going on as we prepared our chocolate shapes.
We hope that lots of Nursery children and their families will be able to come to the Christmas Fayre tomorrow between 2.00 and 4.00 in school. We can certainly recommend the chocolate shapes to anyone who has a little money to spend.
Blast Off!
This group of children worked well together recently when they decided to build their own rocket. They showed super teamwork and creativity in using materials to hand to produce a rocket as part of their imaginative play. Once the rocket was created, they all shouted “5…4…3…2…1… blast off!” as they set off in space for more adventures. Well done all of you for working well as a team. We love your rocket.
Christmas Has Arrived
You know Christmas has truly arrived in Nursery when the Christmas tree appears and the children were certainly excited in the Rainbow Room when the Christmas boxes were brought out for them to investigate. As you can see, we had lots of enthusiastic helpers who made a great job of decorating their tree. What a lot of happy smiles at the end of their busy morning as the children settled down in front of the tree to sing their Christmas songs.
