Thank You

Thank you to all those children and their families who kindly donated to our Harvest collection. We feel sure that all the food will be much appreciated by Annan Food Bank. Many thanks also to Rev. McGougan for joining us in Nursery for our Harvest celebration.
We really appreciated your fantastic support in providing a wonderful audience for the children today. It was a lovely opportunity for us all to gather together to celebrate Harvest and we hope that you enjoyed the children’s performance as much as they seemed to. One of our aims is to develop ‘confident individuals’ and many of our children showed themselves to be exactly that in their performance. Well done boys and girls!

Oats and Beans and Barley Grow

We hope that you are all remembering our Harvest celebration tomorrow at 11.30 for the morning children and 2.30 for those in the afternoon. Dylan’s Mum liked our photos of the children practising:

“We are really looking forward to joining u all 2morrow as well, we cant wait to hear all the boys and girls lovely singing voices, Dylan has been practising lots at home, we all now know the words to oats and beans and barley grow off by heart, he sings it that much lol xx”

Well done Dylan, singing your songs at home. We hope lots of our families join us as the children seem to be looking forward to having an audience.

Captain Furrybeard Visits Nursery

The children in the Sunshine Room have continued to be motivated by their interest in pirates and the learning has been developed in several directions with the help of Mrs. Bell, our student teacher.
Pirate stories have been very popular, with some of the children keen to tell the stories themselves. They also received a letter from Captain Furrybeard who seemed to have left his telescope and hat in our Nursery and needed some help from the children. Maps, flags and telescopes were produced and the children had to think about how to make a new pirate ship for Captain Furrybeard. This, of course, involved measuring Captain Furrybeard to help us work out what size of ship was needed. As you can see, his ship worked out just the right size for him.
We had treasure hidden in the sand tray and there was some counting had to be done to ensure it was all found. Good turn taking skills were also shown as the children played a pirate game. We hope that you enjoy these photos of the children engaged with all the different pirate activities. As you can see, lots of valuable learning has taken place with Captain Furrybeard.

Family Rhyme Time

Friday saw our first Family Learning event of the year and we are delighted that a good number of children and their families chose to take part. Nursery rhymes was the theme and everyone seemed to have good fun with scissors, glue and singing lots of different rhymes. Thank you to Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, for organising this great activity – everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. Here are some of the children busy with their families.

Good News Tree

Thank you to all those families who have been helping the children share news for our good news trees. The leaves are beginning to fill the tree in each room and it’s great to hear all your news from home. If you still have your leaf at home please bring it in to Nursery and we will add it to the others. Here are some of the achievements already on display.

Ben W. swam a short distance without armbands during his swimming lesson.
Keegan can ride his bike without stabilisers.
James said that his baby sister laughs when he tickles her.
Dylan can pedal his bike properly now.
Thom has learned to swim without his armbands and just needs a snorkel now.
Max L. can swim in his Nana’s pool with no armbands on.
Joshua had a big boy’s haircut with the clippers and didn’t cry.
Orla can ride her bike without stabilisers.
Peter can sing the alphabet song.
Kacper is learning to ride a bike on two wheels.
Mollie can get dressed by herself.
Nadia is looking forward to her grandmother coming to visit from Poland.

What a lot of wonderful good news! Keep sharing your news with us boys and girls – we love to hear about what is happening in your lives.

Outdoor Fun

Most of the children have taken the opportunity this week to explore the outdoor area so they are learning to change their shoes and put on outdoor suits. Some have developed their confidence on the big climbing frame, others have been off on a distant adventure on the train, practising their ball skills or making great concoctions in the mud kitchen. The garden is also a great place to make new friends as the children from both rooms play together and, as you can see, it is a very popular area of Nursery.

Learning Journey

Two of our families have been enjoying our recent photos of the children busy in their play:

“Owen having great fun counting the animals, he has settled in really well and can’t wait for the following day to get to Nursery! Great….”

“Thank you for making Dylan feel so welcome and for helping him to settle in so well.. He has thoroughly enjoyed his first few days at nursery and has been so full of enthusiasm when he has been talking about what he has been doing. I have no doubt thatt Dylan is going to be so happy and have fun enjoying his learning journey at Hecklegirth nursery :-)

Thank you for contributing to our blog with such positive comments. It’s great to hear that you feel that your children are happy and settled – it’s what we all want.
