Burns Celebration

Yesterday we celebrated Burns Day with shortbread, oatcakes and cheese and, of course, Irn Bru. We appreciate everyone making a super effort to provide the children with ‘a touch o’ tartan’ – we thought that they looked wonderful. Thank you also to all the family and friends who came to hear the children sing their Scottish songs. It’s important for them to learn to perform to an audience and you certainly helped to make it a memorable occasion. Here you can see some of the morning children enjoying their celebration. Afternoon photos will follow soon.

Dancing at Home

It’s so nice to see a family comment now that our blog problems are solved. Ava’s family has been looking at the photos of the children trying out Highland dancing:

“Ava had great fun doing the highland dancing she was even doing it at home.”

Well done Ava for having a go at home. The children really did enjoy dancing to the Scottish music and were asking for it again today.

Highland Dancing

With the mood of Burns Day in the air, we put on some Scottish music this week and the children have loved it. This morning some had great fun enthusiastically learning a few steps of Highland dancing to the sound of the pipes. Just look at the happy faces of those dancers!

Visit From Primary 6

As part of our transition work, Primary 6 children have begun to visit Nursery to play and build relationships with our children. They have worked on what makes a good buddy and are showing great enthusiasm and skills with the younger children. Thank you Primary 6 for doing a great job on your first visit. Keep up the good work – the Nursery children enjoyed your visits.

Settling In

Seven new children have joined us this term and they are beginning to settle well into Nursery life. They are becoming familiar with the routines and are growing in confidence to try out a range of activities. We hope that our new families enjoy using our blog to get a feel for life in Hecklegirth Nursery and thought we would share a few photos of some of the children enjoying their first few days.

Little Visitors

Mrs. Mahon, the Primary 2 teacher, enjoyed seeing the photos of the children who visited her classroom to make ice homes:

“Lovely seeing P2 working so nicely with our little visitors! Come back again soon!”

Thank you for inviting us and thank you to the Primary 2 children for looking after our little Nursery group – great teamwork everyone.

Party Time

A fun time was had by all at our Christmas parties today with something for everyone, be it games, dancing or party food. The children were also delighted to have a visit from Santa, despite it being such a busy time of year for him. Thank you Santa – we all really appreciated your visit.
The photos below give you a taste of our morning party and photos of the afternoon party will follow in the next day or two.

Ice Homes With Primary 2

When Primary 2 wanted to put ice cube trays in our freezer recently, some of the Nursery children were curious about what they were going to do with them. A group of children was therefore invited to join Primary 2 when they collected the ice cubes for their activity. Our children worked well together with the older children when they talked about freezing and melting as they tried to make homes out of ice.

The children showed that they developed their learning from this visit to Primary 2 as you can see from some of the comments below.

Owen: we needed to build ice homes. You needed to stack them all.
Brogan: we had to get the ice out. It was very cold. It’s made of water.
Noah: we were making homes. They melted and made water.
Ethan: we went to the school. We made ice for them. We were having a feel of it. It felt freezing cold.

Thank you very much Mrs. Mahon and Primary 2 for inviting us to your class. We had lots of fun and were able to tell the other boys and girls what we had learned.
