We hope that lots of you enjoyed the fun activities in gorgeous sunshine at Annan’s Day of the Region today. It really was lovely to see so many families and community groups taking part with such enthusiasm. The super pictures that you made of your favourite places and activities in Annan were displayed on the Nursery windows, along with others from Hecklegirth and other local schools and we thought that they looked wonderful. If you didn’t get a chance to see them all today, here is a selection of your ideas and drawings.

Comments From Our Families
We are pleased to say that several of our parents have recently left us comments. Like us, Ben’s Mum was delighted with his certificate:
“Well done Ben! We are so proud of you”.
Owen and Finlay featured in our recent outdoor pirate photos which their families enjoyed:
“Owen tells me he was using sellotape to help make the flags and had a great time!”
“Finlay had great fun helping to create the pirate ship. He certainly looks very busy in the photos!”
The children have shown great enthusiasm about pirates this week and have worked so well together. We’ve all been impressed with their great teamwork.
Pirates In Hecklegirth Nursery
A big wooden box outdoors has provided the opportunity for great imaginative play recently and this week it has been transformed into a pirate ship. Once they realised that they could fit into the box, the children’s imagination took off and their play developed into the world of pirates.
They decided that they needed a pirate flag and wanted to decorate the ship with “pirate signs”. Then, of course, they had to get the blue paint out to create a sea for their ship to sail on and treasure had to be found which led to treasure maps and lots of talk of “X marks the spot”. The children even used materials in the garden to add planks for the pirates to walk along. We hope that you enjoy these photos of the children showing great creativity and fantastic teamwork.
Certificate Winners
There were more well deserved award winners in Nursery last week for a range of achievements. Here they are after being presented with their certificates. Well done all of you.
Day of The Region
Thank you to those parents who have helped the children make a picture at home to depict their favourite place or thing to do in Annan. These pictures will be displayed later in the week to celebrate Annan’s Day of the Region on Saturday 18th September.
The school grounds will be open to help showcase some of our local clubs and activities. The Nursery and school windows between the John Bell field and the tennis pavilion will be covered in artwork from the four local primary schools so watch out for your pictures there. There’s plenty time for more children to bring in their drawings so keep thinking about what you like best in Annan – we would love to have a picture from you to display to celebrate Annan’s Day of the Region.
Keep Up The Good Work
Thom’s family was pleased to see his certificate photo on the blog:
“We are so proud of Thom, we hope he keeps up the good work!
He’s been showing his certificate to everyone, he’s just as proud as us!”
We are proud of you too Thom. Very well done!
Welcome To Mrs. Bell
Children in the Sunshine Room have been getting to know Mrs. Caroline Bell who is on placement with us as a teaching student from University of West of Scotland. Mrs. Bell will be based in the Sunshine Room for the next few weeks, although she has also enjoyed meeting the Rainbow children outdoors, and is looking forward to working with everyone. We hope that she has a happy time at Hecklegirth Nursery.
Beep The Card
Kacey’s Mum commented on our “Beat the Street” photos:
“Kacey was really excited that she was able to beep the card as we couldn’t get a card as there is none left anywhere!”
I think we still have some left in Nursery. If you ask the Rainbow Room staff tomorrow, they will hopefully be able to give you one Kacey and you can beep the card with your family.
Beat The Street
The lovely weather this week has been a great incentive to get out and about with the Nursery children to take part in the Beat the Street campaign as part of the Scottish Government’s Smarter Choices Smarter Places initiative. As you can see, the children have enjoyed taking a walk to tap the Beat Boxes close to Nursery and have managed to earn points along the way. We hope that you are all joining in with this great Health and Wellbeing event with your families too.
