The parents of those children who have birthdays between September and February, and are due to start school in August 2016 have already had a letter explaining the options re a deferred year in Nursery.
An information leaflet and application forms are available in Nursery for those who wish to apply for an additional year. Please ask staff for copies if you are interested in this option. The final application date is January 15th when applications must be in Dumfries.
We hope that you take the opportunity to speak to staff if you are unsure about your child’s readiness to move to Primary 1 next year and we can discuss our views.
Christmas Sales Team
Our chocolate Christmas shapes seemed very popular at the Christmas Fayre today and were sold in no time. Well done to our great sales team who you can see here and to all those children who helped to make the chocolate.
It was great to see lots of Nursery children and their families visiting the Fayre too. We hope that you all enjoyed yourselves.
Adventures In Nursery
Jim’s family has been looking at the photos of us making chocolate shapes for the Christmas Fayre:
“Jim is loving all the really exciting things that have been happening at nursery and is full of stories of his ‘adventures’ as he calls them. Thank you to all the nursery team, you are fantastic.”
It’s great to hear that Jim’s enjoying himself. It’s certainly a busy time of year in Nursery. Thank you very much for your kind comment.
Christmas Fayre
With the school Christmas Fayre tomorrow (Thursday), we have been making chocolate Christmas shapes to sell on our stall. Discussions about what would happen when we put chocolate in the microwave then the fridge developed the children’s learning about sciences. We also used numeracy skills to count the squares of chocolate as well as reading the dial to set the microwave so there was lots of learning going on as we prepared our chocolate shapes.
We hope that lots of Nursery children and their families will be able to come to the Christmas Fayre tomorrow between 2.00 and 4.00 in school. We can certainly recommend the chocolate shapes to anyone who has a little money to spend.
Thank You Luca
We would like to thank Luca’s family for all the lovely art and craft activities that they donated to us recently. Lots of the children have been enjoying the Christmas crafts over the past week and have been taking great care when making decorations. Here are a few of the children busy at work, producing some great decorations for our Nursery tree and for their trees at home. Thank you Luca – everyone is enjoying your kind gifts.
Christmas Post
If any of the children would like to give Christmas cards to their friends, please use the Christmas post box in the cloakroom area to post them and we will sort the cards into their trays. Thank you.
Carlisle Christmas Help
Eastriggs Primary and Hecklegirth Primary want to do something to help make Christmas special for those affected by the recent floods.
We don’t want them to have to cancel Christmas so we are asking families to donate a gift, wrapped and labelled for a man, woman, boy or girl- something to wear and/or enjoy on what will be a damp festive period. It’s a simple and practical way to help and shows that we are thinking of our neighbours at this time.
Please drop off gifts to the school by Monday 14th and we will take them to Carlisle for distribution to those in need.
Blast Off!
This group of children worked well together recently when they decided to build their own rocket. They showed super teamwork and creativity in using materials to hand to produce a rocket as part of their imaginative play. Once the rocket was created, they all shouted “5…4…3…2…1… blast off!” as they set off in space for more adventures. Well done all of you for working well as a team. We love your rocket.
Family Christmas Crafts
We would like to remind you that our Family Learning Christmas craft activities will be running on Monday and Tuesday of this week (7th and 8th December). Those who have requested a place, should initially make their way to the Family Room then Eileen will collect the children from Nursery when you are ready for them. We hope that you and the children enjoy these festive activities.
Well Done Finlay
Finlay’s family is delighted with his recent award:
“We are all so proud of Finlay and his certificate for super shape work. Well done!”
We are proud of you too Finlay and you certainly deserved your certificate.
