Have you got a question about Nursery, want to know about the children’s special books or perhaps want to meet other parents/carers? You are welcome to pop in for a cuppa and a chat on Tuesday 5th September with Eileen Johnstone (Family Learning Co-ordinator)and Mrs. Carruthers (Nursery teacher). We will be in the Family Learning room opposite the school hall between 11.20 and 1.00 and look forward to seeing some of you there.
Let’s Think About Some Rules
We have been talking to the children about what rules we should have in Nursery and why so thought we would share some of their ideas.
Jasmin: no running because you might trip.
Evan G.: no running – you might bump your head.
Leah: no throwing toys.
Amelia: you need to walk.
Brooke: don’t hit.
Cali: be careful on the climbing frame.
Fraser: don’t run. You might slip and bump into each other.
Frankie: don’t make a mess and help to tidy up.
Louie: walk in case you slip.
Bethany: no biting.
Penny: no throwing toys.
Emily: don’t paint on furniture.
Aoife: no shouting or fighting.
Mason: no running in school.
Ava: take care of the books.
Imoen: don’t run – just walk.
Good ideas boys and girls. You are all beginning to understand about rules and why we need them.
Sunshine in the Nature Area
The children in the Sunshine Room love a visit to the school nature area and they had their first visit of the new year last week. It was exciting for them to rediscover and explore nature together. They even picked a ripe apple from the tree and enjoyed a taste of it when they went back to Nursery. It’s funny how an apple you’ve picked yourself from a tree always taste more delicious.
Congratulations
Outdoor Fun
Just like the morning children, those in the afternoon sessions have been experiencing a range of outdoor activities. Some investigated the sensory flower box that we planted last year and then decided to draw some of the plants, others tried out scooters or put the diggers into action in our mud area. We hope that everyone is enjoying seeing snapshots of the children happy and confident in the Nursery environment at the end of their first week.
Photos
Recently we have noticed that some photos in our galleries have appeared to be the wrong way round when viewed on some tablets. We will try to resolve this issue if possible but all photos can be easily viewed with the correct orientation on a PC if you are having this problem. Sorry for any inconvenience.
Outdoor Play
As our first week has progressed, most of the children have taken the opportunity to explore the outdoor area so they are learning to change their shoes and put on outdoor suits when they are needed. Some are developing their confidence on the big climbing frame, others have practised their ball skills or made birthday cakes in the mud kitchen. The outdoor area is certainly a very popular place to play. Here are some of the morning children busy outdoors. We will post photos of the afternoon children soon.
Settling In
Thank you to all those who have completed their permission forms. We really appreciate it. Now that we have permission from lots our families we can share more photos of the children’s first couple of days of play.
We would be delighted if you left us a comment (by clicking on the word “comments” under the post title) to let us know how you feel about the start of the Nursery year.

First Day
It was great today to see some familiar faces from last year and lovely to begin to get to know our new children and their families.
We are able to share some photos here of the children at play on their first day. Once we have the blog permission slips returned from everyone, we will able to share more photos and examples of the children’s work here. We hope that you will find this a valuable insight into the life of our Nursery and that you can use the blog to add comments about your child’s experience.
Simply click on the word “comments” under the title of each post if you wish to leave a comment. Please be aware that these will not appear immediately, as they are monitored by the administrator before publication, but you should see your comment within a day or two.
Thank you to all our parents for working with us to provide a smooth and happy start for the children.
Start of Term
We are looking forward to seeing everyone when Nursery starts on Monday 21st August. It will be lovely to see the children who are returning for their second year and to get to know all our new children and their families.
We would like to remind you that morning sessions have a soft start (8.45-9.10) and children finish at 11.55 unless staying for a full day session. Afternoon children all start at 12.15 and should be collected between 3.00 and 3.25. Children attending for a full day finish at 3.05.
Entrance will be through the Nursery garden and in through the first door on the left for the green and yellow groups, the second door on the left for red and blue groups.
If this is your child’s first time in Nursery, we suggest he/she comes initially for one hour to help him/her to settle in. Please see the letter confirming your child’s place in Nursery for details of groups and times.
We look forward to seeing you on Monday.
