“Squishy, Sticky and Slooey”
The children have been enjoying an interesting sensory experience as they have experimented with some gloop. Here are some of the comments they made about how it felt and photos of their experience.
Eadie: slimy.
Archie: it feels like soup.
Safoora: squishy.
Cameron: sticky.
Devlin: like banana.
Aoife: yukky and cold.
Priya: it’s slooey. It feels like gooey, gooey.
Cali: it’s a bit warm.
Derry: it feel like alien stuff.
Crue: it’s slime.
Leah: squidgy.
Halle: all weird.
Enid: a bit chilly and jelly.
We love your ideas boys and girls. I’m sure people can imagine what if felt like by your descriptions.
Learning With Chocolate
With the school Christmas Fayre on Thursday of this week, we have been making chocolate shapes to sell on our stall. Discussions about what would happen when we put chocolate in the microwave then the fridge developed the children’s learning about science and we also used numeracy skills to count the squares of chocolate as we prepared our chocolate shapes. Of course there was also the opportunity for a little tasting as some of the children enjoyed the age old tradition of “cleaning” the bowl at the end.
We hope that lots of Nursery children and their families will be able to come to the Christmas Fayre on Thursday from 6.30 until 8.00 in school. We can certainly recommend the chocolate shapes to anyone who has a little money to spend – at 50p a bag we think that they are a tasty buy.
Literacy in Nursery
We would like to thank those parents who joined us last week to read stories to their children in Nursery. This is one way that we are trying to promote literacy for our children and we hope that those who participated enjoyed the experience. Here are a few of the parents who took part, enjoying some story telling. We hope that lots of you will be able to join us again after the Christmas holiday when we will arrange another date.
Christmas Hampers
We would like to thank everyone who has donated prizes to the Nursery hampers as part of our school and Nursery fundraising activity. As you can see, our hampers are full of tasty goodies and will make super prizes for some lucky winners.
As the Christmas Fayre approaches (Thursday, December 7th), we ask that any final donations are brought in as soon as possible so that we can wrap our hampers ready for the prize winners. Thank you to all those who contributed through donations and by selling squares. We appreciate your support
Congratulations
Congratulations to two of our recent award winners. Well done both of you!
Christmas Mail
Apologies
We apologise for the lack of posts over the past few days but there has been a technical hitch nationally with Glow blogs which has taken some time to resolve. However, we are delighted that we are now back and able to share our Nursery activities with you.
Glitter and Sparkles
As you may have noticed, the festive season has arrived early in Nursery as the children have become immersed in glitter and sparkles to create decorations for our Christmas trees. Thank you to all those who brought us egg boxes over the past week or so as they have now been transformed into sparkling tree decorations. Here is a little gallery of our first Christmas activities.
Learning in the Rain
For most adults, hours of heavy rain are not likely to put smiles on their faces, but for Nursery children it provides great opportunities for fun experimentation especially when we add some washing-up liquid and a few appropriate resources.
After a recent heavy deluge we had a range of objects out in the garden which produced some valuable discussions about floating and sinking as well as lots of pouring and measuring to develop numeracy skills. The children worked so well together and enjoyed investigating their ideas in a real life context. Great fun was had, for example, by our younger children experimenting to balance their little ducks on a floating piece of wood. What better way to learn some early science?
It may have been a little inconvenient for adults to use a different entrance to Nursery but the children certainly took advantage of conditions that were very exciting for them.
