Visit To “The Big School”

Instead of our usual walk with the Primary 6 buddies on Monday, we had a lovely invitation to visit them in their classroom this week. After a long climb up the big stairs, which everyone found very exciting, we finally arrived on the top floor of the school and found Primary 6 all ready for us in a big circle. We joined them in the circle and had great fun learning several songs with our buddy friends.
Here are the morning children having a great time with Primary 6. We have photos from our afternoon visit too which we will post soon. Thank you so much to Primary 6 and Mr. Stevenson for taking the time to plan such a fun activity for us and for making our little children feel so welcome. They were all very excited about their visit to “the big school”.

Buddy Training

As you know, our Primary 6 pupils have been spending time building relationships with the Nursery children over the past few months. To help them develop their skills, Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, has done some buddy training with them recently to ensure that they are confident in supporting the younger children. It was reassuring to see these older children taking their duties so seriously as they discussed varying possible scenarios and how they should behave in different situations. We think that we have a super group of children in Primary 6 who are showing maturity and responsibility in their roles in Nursery. Thank you Eileen for your help and thank you Primary 6 for all your thoughtful ideas.

Tesco Take Two

Just like the morning children, those in the afternoon thoroughly enjoyed their visit to Tesco last week. Thank you again to all those parents who accompanied us and to Tesco for such an informative visit. We really appreciate the opportunity for the children to learn about their local community and the world of work.

Tesco Visitors

There were some young visitors at Tesco last week as Nursery children visited the store to learn about what happens in the shop and behind the scenes. They worked well on their shopping task in the fruit aisle and had to think hard about finding different numbers of fruit and vegetables in various colours. The walk-in fridge and freezer were a bit chilly for some but we soon warmed up in the bakery and at the delicatessen. The tills were great fun too.
We would like to say huge thanks to all the staff at Tesco who were so patient and kind. The children thoroughly enjoyed their visit and we all appreciate the time you took to show them round the store. Thank you also to those parents who gave the time to make our visit possible. Here are the morning children busy in the store. Photos of the afternoon children will follow soon.

Well Done Brooke

Brooke’s family likes the photos of the children feeding the birds:

“Great photos, Since this, Brooke has been helping feed the birds at home and at her Grannies house a lot and has been telling us all about how they find it hard to get food when it’s snowy and cold so we need to feed them.”

Well done Brooke – you have been listening well. Those little birds will be really pleased that you are thinking of them in the cold weather.

Feed The Birds

After our recent days off Nursery due to snow, we had lots of bread that was heading for the bin in our snack area. However, the children decided to give the birds a little helping hand in the cold weather and very kindly put it out in the garden for them. No doubt our little feathered friends were very grateful for our help in the cold weather.

World Book Day Celebrations

Despite the original World Book Day celebrations being postponed due to the bad weather, we still had a lovely delayed event on Tuesday of this week. Lots of children dressed in their pyjamas or comfy clothes and brought their favourite books from home to share with us. What a lot of stories the Nursery ladies read that day! It was super to enjoy such a wide range of books with the children and to hear about what they enjoyed most.
