Exploring Outdoors

Brooke’s family has been looking at the photos of her working well as part of a team outdoors:

“So nice to see Brooke doing what she loves doing best, exploring outdoors in mud and water 😀”

They did a great job and showed perseverance and super teamwork to empty the water butt.

Clever Problem Solvers

Here are some clever little problem solvers busy at work in our garden earlier in the week. We talked about emptying our water butt, as the rainwater had been sitting over the holidays, but we needed to work out how to get the water out without making a massive puddle in the mud kitchen area.
With a bit of a chat about possible solutions and a peek inside to see how much rainwater we were talking about (a lot!), the children decided to hold the hose under the tap to catch the water and then let the water drain away at the side of the fence out of the way of everyone’s play. What a team! They showed good thinking skills and great perseverance as they worked away as a team to get the job done. Now we have an empty water butt waiting for fresh rainwater. Well done all of you!

Visitors

After setting up our blog in October 2010 to provide an opportunity for families to gain an insight into the life of Nursery, we added a counter to measure the number of visitors to our site. Unfortunately, after a few years, there were problems with this so in October 2015 we added a new counter to monitor visitor numbers and we are delighted to say that we have now had more than 30 000 visitors in that time.
If you click on the small map, further down this page on the right, then click on ‘Locations’, you can see that we have had visitors from 45 countries which is amazing.
We really appreciate the comments on our posts as this, hopefully, helps to make it a fun, shared site for everyone. Thank you for your support in keeping our blog active. We hope that you find it helpful and informative.

Book Your Breakfast

For two weeks from the week beginning 23rd April we will be taking part in the Big Pedal event. Children, parents and staff are encouraged to cycle or scoot to school over the two weeks and we will keep a record of how many are doing this so get your bikes and scooters out ready everyone and have a great healthy and fun start to the day.
On the 4th May we will finish with a Big Pedal fun day, where classes will be timetabled to take part in cycling activities with Annan Cycling Club and Katie Robinson, I Bike cycling officer. There will also be a free cycling breakfast on the morning of that day for those bringing their bikes or scooters to school. Please remember that your return slips to book your place on the breakfast should be returned to staff by Friday 20th April.

Welcome To Nursery

Four new children have joined us this week and they are beginning to settle into Nursery life, learning about the routines and beginning to grow in confidence to try out a range of activities. We hope that our new families enjoy using our blog to get a feel for life in Hecklegirth Nursery and thought we would share some photos of the children enjoying their first couple of days. We hope that you all have lots of happy times with us.

Nursery Enrolment

Wednesday and Thursday (18th and 19th April) of this week are enrolment days for children who will attend Nursery in the next academic year. Please come along to the school office with your child’s birth certificate and proof of address to complete an enrolment form. Please check the name of your Health Visitor, if you are unsure, as you will need this as part of the enrolment process. Those already attending our Nursery have a form in their tray to complete for their enrolment. This should be returned by 19th April.
As explained in the letter sent to your home, this enrolment is for the normal 600 hours allocation and from January we will have additional hours on offer to provide early access to the 1140 hours committed to by the Scottish Government for Early Learning and Childcare by 2020/21. An update form will be available in the Autumn term if you wish to increase your child’s hours. We look forward to meeting new families this week for your child’s initial enrolment.

Start Of Term

We hope that everyone has enjoyed their holidays with their families. You will no doubt have lots of tales to tell us when you return.
Nursery starts back tomorrow (Monday). Starting times are as normal – a soft start between 8.45 and 9.10 for the morning children and 12.15 in the afternoon. Details of upcoming events this term can be found on the “Dates for your Diary” link on the right under “Support Information”. As always, this will be updated as soon as any further dates are finalised.
We look forward to seeing you all tomorrow especially our new children and their families.

Spring Artists

As we began to talk about Spring in the last few days of term, some of the children used their observational skills to create Spring flower paintings. We are impressed with the first few works of art that they have produced and look forward to seeing more soon. I wonder if any of the children recognise their work? Click then click again for a close up of the paintings and you should be able to see the names of the artists.

Humpty Dumpty

Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, continued with her PEEP activities in the last week of term and Humpty Dumpty played an important role in this session, with the children building a wall for Humpty, going under lycra to find him and then making puppets with their families. This looks like great fun. Look out for more PEEP (Parents Early Education Programme) sessions next term – remember that younger siblings are welcome too.
