Life In Primary 1

The children who will soon be making the transition to Primary 1 at Hecklegirth had a visit recently to the P1 classrooms to get a taste of school life. As you can see, they settled in well and were confident to try out a range of activities. Thank you to Mrs. Lindsay and Miss Campbell, as well as all their children, for making the Nursery children feel so welcome.

Multicultural Week

Help!

As part of our Multicultural Week (week beginning 12th June) we would like everyone in school (staff included!) to bring in a pebble or stone please. Can you please begin to bring them in as soon as possible so that we have everyone sorted for the 12th of June? Please bring them to Nursery staff who will pass them to Mrs. Mahon or Mrs. Bell.

Thank you!

Cycle Smoothie

The cycle smoothie activity was yet another great fun event that Nursery children took part in during our recent Health Week. These afternoon children chose from a selection of delicious fruits and juices which were put in the liquidiser on the back of a specially adapted bike. The children then pedalled the bike to activate the liquidiser and produce their smoothie. All agreed that this was a great way to make smoothies which tasted delicious.

Barbecue

We hope that lots of people have their barbecue tickets bought and are looking forward to a lovely evening relaxing in the sun tonight. Hecklegirth Fundraisers have worked hard to bring this event together and are looking forward to seeing lots of Nursery and school families there. The barbecue is on from 6.00 until 8.00 and money raised, as always, will be used to support activities and resources for all children in the school and Nursery. We hope that those going have a great time.

Little Visitors

A very interesting parcel appeared in Nursery recently and the children were excited to find that some little caterpillars had arrived to spend time with us. As we were already learning about life cycles, most of them have made good predictions about what might happen to our little visitors. We had a good look at them when they arrived and the children have been keen to follow their progress, checking their size most days. Everyone is looking forward to the next stage happening soon as they have grown quite big.

Tesco Tasting

Health Week meant lots of fun, active events but we also had visits from Tesco staff who brought a selection of fruits for the children to taste as part of a healthy eating lifestyle. Some were keener than others to sample fruits that they would not normally eat, such as pomegranate, but many ‘had a go’ and discovered that they liked what they tasted.
Thank you to Tesco for providing us with such a lovely selection of fruit and to the staff who prepared it and talked to the children about what they could sample.

Fun With Numbers

Here are some of the children and their families at last week’s PEEP session which was all about numbers. As part of the session they played a numbers action game. There was lots of winking, blinking, clapping and hopping. Eileen told me that turning around six times made Alyssa dizzy!! It certainly sounds like a lot of fun.

Pass The Baton

As part of last week’s Health Week activities we took part in a whole school and Nursery relay which involved a baton being passed from class to class all day round the school grounds. Well done to the Nursery children for playing their part in keeping the baton going.
