One Windy Day

What can we do on a windy day? Let’s have a look at some of the activities our children got involved in one recent windy day in our garden.
Some flags and a few plastic bags helped the children learn about the impact of the wind and how a change of direction can affect how their make-do kites work. Snack also seems like a whole lot more fun if you enjoy it outdoors regardless of weather and the discovery of two new big wooden boxes provided great opportunities for imaginative play. They started out as pirate ships then the children decided to use the guttering to build ramps for their cars and balls to be rolled in and out of the boxes so lots of teamwork, discussion and problem solving happened led by the children’s own ideas in play. Windy days can be great fun!

  1. Love hearing about all the fantastic STEM activities you’re doing. Love the idea of a plastic bag to investigate wind – just shows you don’t need lots of fancy equipment to explore the world around us.

    Keep it up!
