Circus of Thieves and the Raffle of Doom book trailer

We worked collaboratively to create our own book trailer for ‘Circus of Thieves and the Raffle of Doom’ by William Sutcliffe. We wanted to promote the book and encourage others to read it. The author, William Sutcliffe will be visiting our school as part of Scottish Book Trust’s author visit programme on Thursday 5th June. We included our own sketches of the crazy characters and added our own narrations. We hope you enjoy watching our book trailer and we really recommend reading this brilliant, humorous, chaotic and exciting book. We would love feedback on our book trailer so please feel welcome to leave a comment by clicking on the title above.         Created by Primary 5D

French IDL day P7 at DHS

Fête française1 the Primary 7s were invited to a very enjoyable ‘French’ day at DHS. There was a variety of activities organised for them, each one encouraging the children to use their knowledge of French vocabulary and learn some new words. Songs were sung, puppets were made and imaginary animals created. Luckily there was also time to sample some delicious croissants and baguettes. The day ended with a celebration of the children’s successes to which parents were invited.Pupils were then presented with lovely certificates of achievement. We woud like to thank Mrs Kinghorn and all the modern languages team for this very special day.

Bin Bag fashion show!

Fashion, Dalbeattie Primary style!

Sam, Hamish and and Lennon were dressed in heavy metal gear, wow!                          Helen and Miss Mc Crae were lovely in red and black as Mickey and Minnie Mouse!!

The three amigos in neon, ponchos and moustaches came strolling into the hall to loud applause!Haute Couture comes to Dalbeattie Primary! Pupils, staff and parents were treated to a morning of high fashion when the P7s put on their ‘Bin Bag’ fashion show. The designs were fantasticand highly original. There were Ninjas, Superheroes, and a wonderful variety of fabulous gowns. All pupils made a huge effort and and thoroughly enjoyed making their outfits, we definitely have budding fashion models in our midst.

Girls with style, Milly, Anna and Caitlin posed for the camera at the fashion show!

Here comes the bride in a brand new creation with her trendy bridesmaids and flower girl.

Three superheroes were here to save us at the fashion show: Hawkeye, Thor with his hammer and finally Iron Man.

P3A Hail Ceasar in their Roman Play!

Ancient Rome came to life at Dalbeattie Primary when the P3s performed their super play, all about life during Roman times.

The costumes were brilliant, especially the soldiers who looked very impressive. P3 shared their learning with us in an engaging and informative way. They explained how Romans dressed, ate and spent their leisure time-there was even a gladiator fight and a chariot race! Throughout the entertainment there was a catchy song which led to some impromtu  audience participation! Well done Mrs Anderson and P3!!!

P5D Enterprise

P5D Enterprise
Primary 5D learned how to saw wood safely and used their new skills to create their own wooden photo frames. Mrs Dyson was very proud at how safely they used junior hacksaws and bench hooks. They added in a photo to each frame, showing themselves dressed up as a character from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Primary 5D then designed a persuasive poster to advertise the sale of their frames to family members. After collecting money, they calculated costs and discovered they had made a profit. Primary 5D were very pleased to have raised the £125 needed (P5W were raising the other £125 needed) to pay for their bus to the Cocoa Bean Chocolate Factory.

School in the Olden Days

Primary 5D were delighted to be visited by a former Headteacher of Dalbeattie Primary. Mr Kennedy told us great stories of what school was like in the past. We had great fun using ink and quills to write our names. We got a huge fright on hearing the sound of the belt as it hit the table!! We are very glad the belt is no longer used at school. A big thank you to Mr Kennedy for sharing his experiences.

Gymnastics

Sixteen children from P5, P6 and P7 competed in the Dumfries and Galloway Regional Gymnastics Competition at DG1 in Dumfries recently. They all gave their best effort to perform with quality and control in front of an audience. They were impressive, a credit to themselves, their parents and the school. Practising lots of new skills in order to prepare for the event, well done!

It is wonderful that so many of the children have started to attend the after school gymnastics club.
