READ WEEK!

This week at school has been READ WEEK! We have used this whole week to enjoy books and what we can learn from them. For example, the different genres and character description. We had mystery readers from in school and the central library. On Tuesday we had a teddy bears picnic. We really enjoyed that.

The P7’s also read to us and we had a teddy drive. We have been looking at Roald Dahl stories and doing character descriptions of the main characters and book reviews. Our favourites are ‘the Enormous Crocodile’, Georges marvellous medicine’ and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’.

Please look and leave comments on our blog. We hope you like the pictures of what we have been doing.

Massai Art

We were visited by the Osiligi Warriors, a Massai song and dance troupe. Please have a look at the pictures below. We all really enjoyed it.

We enjoyed it so much that we made our own Massai shields, see pictures below.

We used ear buds to get a dotty effect on our shields to create colourful patterns.

Welcome to Primary Two

Welcome to Primary Two, I am Mrs Munro. This is going to be a busy year for us all. This term our topic will be Castles. This will be in a more historical manner, which will build upon their P1 knowledge of ‘Fairy tales’.

We will be looking at how castles are made, linking this to shape in maths. Who lives in castles, linking this to art and history. We will make our own kings and queens. We will also be comparing life in the past to present.

Through Health and Wellbeing we have already looked at health food and made food pictures, please see below. We would appreciate any comments and hope you have the time to leave them.

There will be regular updates on our blog along with pictures of the children’s learning.

New Term

This term, we are learning about Wild Things!
We are learning all about animals and their habitats, that means where they live. Look at an example of what we did in ICT! We had to put sort animals into three categories: land, air or water.
We have set up a Jungle area in the classroom where many activities await us (Guess the animal, Explorer’s bag, Sort the animals in their habitat, Find my baby and many more!).
Mrs Bradbury and Mr Robertson also managed to borrow an X-Box from Education Scotland! We are having fun using Kinectimals and caring for big cats!
With Mrs McLean, we have had the opportunity to draw tigers in the Jungle!

End of Term…

This term we have been learning about the nativity story. We did a sequencing activity where we had to remember what happened in the story and put it in order. One of the activities we did in class was Write the Room. We had to find all the words in the classroom related to the nativity story. At the building bricks we had to build a stable for Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus.

We had to design our own wrapping paper. It was a problem solving activity as we were only allowed to use three colours.

We have learning about Chrsitmas in the 1990’s as part of our 100 year celebrations. We performed songs from then in our Christmas Show. Lots of parents and carers came to see us.  We had a great time and really enjoyed singing infront of everyone.

This week we have been busy with our Chrsitmas party. We also had M & M Productions come to our school to perform Beauty and the Beast. We all laughed and clapped our way through it. It was great fun.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone. We will see you all on Thursday 5th January 2012.

Week 5

Along with our topic about Old Building and Castles, we are learning about what was going on in the 80’s and 90’s as part of the 100 years whole school project.

As well as our friends from P2/3, we would like you to tell us all about those years! How old were you? What were you doing? How was school? What were you wearing? Please feel free to post a comment to let us know about your stories in the 80’s and/or 90’s!

We are looking forward to reading your posts!

Many thanks from all of us!

Week 4

Meet our new friend! He is called Rainbow!

This is our new friend, Rainbow!

Rainbow loves listening to our stories and news in the Library corner. Everytime we go and visit him, we get a token from the Rainbow box. The table with the most tokens at the end of the week gets a reward.

Rainbow also helps us keep focused when we go around the school as he likes when we walk through the corridors quietly so that our friends from Dens Road do not get distracted.
