We are Primary 3

We have been learning to do an acrostic poem. Mrs McDonald gave all the classes a challenge to make the best poems about school and the winners will have their poems displayed around the school.

We are getting a visit from the Osiligi Maasai Warriors and we are really excited. To prepare us for the visit we have made our own Maasai Warrior shields and belts. We had to use patterns and lines to create them. We listened to some Maasai music on the computer so we know what it sounds like before they come.

We have all been working really hard.

Check our blog next week to see how we enjoyed the warrior visit.

The End of P3

I would just like to say how much I have enjoyed working with you all this year. You have all made such a huge effort in everything you have done and have matured into a wonderful class, to move onto a great P4.  Well done to all of you and I hope you have a wonderful holiday. I will see you all for PE next session!

What a fast term! The summer holidays are fast approaching and we have so much more to try and squeeze into the next 5 weeks! We have sports, trips, prize giving, holiday days! Busy, busy, busy!

This term we have been looking at information about this Olympics and are looking forward to when they start. I hope you will all try and follow the events and medalists throughout the summer holidays!

We are continuing to work on the Olympics wth Miss Ahmad and are introducing a gardening topic with Mrs Paton where we will be trying to think of ideas to develop the garden area around the astro turf. We will keep you posted about this as volunteers and gardening donations may be essential to get us going!!

I am delighted to report that many of you are really enjoying the new homework grids we are doing. Most people are making an effort to choose and carry out at least 1 task per week.  There are a few of you who have put a fantastic amount of work into producing neat, accurate homework and 2 or 3 who are “thinking out the box” in the way you are delivering your tasks. We have had photographs of homework being done at home in a variety of ways, amazing family trees and actual t.shirt design! I am so impressed that you are thinking for yourselves to come up with original ideas, well done and keep it up P3!

Happy Holidays!

Well done for all your hard work this term folks! Yor have worked really hard with your topic. Maybe you could hunt for minibeasts in the holidays and see how many different ones you can find? Bring in any work you do on this to let us all see!

It has been lovely weather at the end of this term to get us in the mood for having a wonderful holiday. I hope you all start active and get outside whenever you can. Remember to try and drink 6-8 cups of water a day and eat your 5-a-day to help you keep healthy!

Have a fun and safe holiday and we will see you when you get back for the last term of P3!

Fantastic February!

We have had a fantastic month of February with Fitclub, moving and decorating of our classroom and all the usual busy day to day learning we do! Fitclub has been great fun with Ally and Naomi on a Tuesday afternoon. They have taugtht us all about the 5 main food groups – dairy, fats & sugars, carbohydrates, fruit & veg and protein. We have also learned that it is important for kids to have a maximum of 2 hours TV/computer time per day, at least 1 hour of physical activity a day and to try and eat 5 pieces of fruit and veg a day.

We have to make a huge thank you to Mrs McDonald for letting us have our classroom decorated and to the janitors and Mrs McLean for helping us move and giving us a learning space while the work has been done. We are so proud of the room, it really looks great!

February 2012

Well done to P3 for winning the most tokens and earning time in the sunshine room this week!

Over the past few weeks we have been learning about minibeasts. We have been classifying beasties, and learning what makes up a minibeast. We have been using words like thorax, abdomen and head to help us. Our class book (James and the Giant Peach) has inspired us to write some interesting adventures that have creepy crawlies in them!

We have also had a huge spelling test of the 200 most commonly used words in the English language. It was very tiring to do but we got there!  Our results and a follow-up sheet have been put into our diaries so we can practise the harder words regularly at home.

I hope you all enjoy your long weekend in February. I will look forward to reading your weekly blogs to find out what interesting things you have been up to!

Happy New Year!

We have got off to a great start this new year! P3 have come into school with a wonderful positive, hardworking attitude. They are tackling each new task with great enthusiasm and teamwork. We had a wonderful team effort with homework last week, as for the first time in P3, the whole class completed and handed homework in on time last week!  We were so excited! The class finally got their gold coin put on the rainbow of achievement! Keep it up for this week, folks!

The behaviour in our class has been wonderful so far. Everyone has been trying so hard to stay off red. Because of that, this weeks gold coin will be awarded to the class if no one is on red all week.  Its going to be tricky for some, but I’m sure with the help and support of their friends they will manage it!  Good luck!

Merry Christmas!

Well done to everyone for all their efforts for the Christmas concert. You all sang very well. Thank you also for the bright costumes you wore for your performance.

“Grandma” from our story has been our main focus over the past few weeks. We have done a wonderful piece of functional writing about making Grandma a cup of tea! We also investigated lots of adjectives to describe Grandma and have used these to lable our large picture of Grandma in our classroom.

“George” promised his parents that he would never go into the medicine cabinet so we discussed the dangers of a medicine cabinet and designed posters showing the dangers.

We have also had a visit from some little minibeasts as an introduction to our new topic next term, this beign Minibeasts!

Merry Christmas to you all!

That time of year!

As we get into the middle of November we start seeing signs that Christmas is on it’s may. The nights and mornings are darker. The days are colder and shorter, and the class Christmas concert songs are given out for you all to learn!

For this Christmas concert, our class are teaming up with P2 and P2/3 to do our songs from the 1970’s, 1980’s and 1990’s. We have to learn the words to 4 songs. The songs are Caledonia, I Wish it Could Be Christmas Everyday!, Grandma Got Run Over by A Reindeer and Do They Know Its Christmas Time?! (All the words will be issued as homework)

It is really important that everyone learns their words so that the classes sound really impressive singing as an infant Choir for the concert.

Our topic this term about “Georges Marvellous Medicine” is going well. So far we have designed what we think Grandma looks like and have used all sorts of interesting adjectives to describe her. We have investigated volume of bottles in maths and have written some really disgusting potions in language! Ask us for a run down on the story so far!
