If you went down to the woods today you were sure of a big surprise. Both Primary 1 classes, complete with adult helpers, made a most impressive den using only natural materials. Thanks to Mrs Ford and Jock ( countryside rangers,) Mrs Russell ( Menstrie Legend,) Mrs Smith and Mrs Aldred ( parent helpers.) A good time was had by all and lots of learning in context. Further planned events include work involving habitats and following animal tracks but thats for an ‘ otter’ day.
We went to a café. We had breakfast. I had butter and toast and water. We had fun.

We have planned to allow the children the chance to experience a taste of Italy on Wednesday. Don’t worry, since my passport has expired and I haven’t the time to renew it because I am too busy blogging, this activity will take place in the classroom. The focus for learning will be to promote a deeper understanding of the concepts of one whole and a half ( by deeper i don’t mean deep pan, we will rather stick to thin and crispy. Ideally if I could get 2 adults to help that would be great. Just let me know. Don’t worry I won’t be too cheesed off if you can’t make it.
P.s. the trip to the local cafe has been confirmed for Friday. Both Primary 1 classes will be involved. Miss Dryburgh and myself have carried out a robust risk assessment and in addition to the three school staff could we ask for 4 helpers ( 2 from each class.)
Thanks
Thanks to everyone who came along this evening to share in the childrens’ learning and yes, my classroom is normally as tidy as that…
We made the plum tarts today, myself and Mrs Nelson thought they tasted scrummy. Mixed reviews from the kids, some really liked them, others managed to eat the pastry around the plums and left the fruit. If I could ask for a couple of volunteers we might tackle making our own cheese and tomato pizzas next week – focus on the concepts of one whole, a half and a quarter. In preparation for this I have being doing a lot of research – two for Tuesday!
To familiarise the children with areas of local interest we are in the process of organising a visit to Menstrie’s Premier Café. Again we will be looking for helpers nearer the time- details to follow.
Lastly we played number bingo on the small chalkboards for our outdoor learning today. Learning intention was consolidation of the correct number formation within 5. Children seemed to like it but I had to give away a toaster, ironing board, digital alarm and 3 cuddly toys as prizes.
Welcome to P1P ‘s official all singing, all dancing blog. We will try to update you as frequently as time allows, so expect to hear from us about once every 2 months! Today was another busy day. Main activities included :- MAKING TEN GREEN BOTTLES AND PAPERMACHE BIRD NESTS.
We are looking forward to seeing as many of you who can make it on Thursday night to see some of the learning which has taken place in P1P.
Thanks Mrs Smith for the gnome sign, it now takes pride of place on our door.
Also hope you all have tried the simple potato scones recipe, you can’t go wrong.
Regards
Mr Pennie
