P1 with Mrs Watt

Welcome to P1 with Mrs Watt!

What an fantastic start P1 have made to their school journey, even during these tricky times. Since starting in August 2020 they have worked so hard settling into the routines of school and the classroom and are making great progress in  their learning.

Here are some of the things we have been doing in  Term 1;

Term 1 2020/2021

During August we spent time getting to know each other and becoming familiar with our classroom environment . We focused on developing a growth mindset in class and enjoyed some mindfulness activities.

We used the book the colour monster to help us explore our emotions, helping us to identify different emotions and how they made us feel. We have loved being outside, we explored the school grounds and looked for colours in our environment and even drew our own colour monsters in the play ground.

We have been working hard developing our fine motor skills through activities such as threading, cotton bud painting and of course Play doh! We love dough disco!

We had a very special visitor to P1 during term 1….

The fairyland dragon came to Coalsnaughton to ask for our help and P1 couldn’t wait to help him out! We have explored lots of different fairy tales and completed lots of different tasks to help the dragon save fairy land! We even built a beanstalk in our classroom to help!

We have been learning our sounds using Jolly phonics and have found lots of fun ways to practice our different sounds. We love learning the new songs and actions to go with each new sound and we are beginning to blend our sounds together to make words!

In numeracy, we have been using lots of practical resources to help us develop our number sense and have been busy learning our numbers to 10 with some help from the number blocks. We have had lots of activities to help us, we love using the whiteboard and Chalk pens.

We even have time in P1 for some free play and even then we are still learning lots. We love a little boogie, ask us next time to show you our superhero dance!
