Leadership in PE, Physical Activity & School Sport
At Coalsnaughton Primary we offer and encourage the children to take on active roles in not only their learning but within PEPASS as well. Our pupils have various opportunities to take on leadership roles including:
- School Sport Committee
- Young Leader at clubs
School Sport Committee
To be a member of Coalsnaughton’s School Sport Committee the pupils had to submit an application form and then go through a formal interview with Alison our Active Schools Coordinator and current committee members and on 7th October the new committee was formed.
Well done to everyone who applied & congratulations to the 2020/21 committee!
The committee members have a variety of roles however this year their role will be adapted to suit the new way of working under Covid restrictions:
- Creation of survey around pupil’s thoughts on PE and school sport
- Supporting the planning and delivery of virtual inter school sports events
- Designing and running the annual Sports Day & Health Week (if allowed in 2021)
- Planning and supporting extra curricular sports sessions on resumption in 2021
Young Leader Training
At Coalsnaughton PS our fantastic Young Leaders support the delivery of extra curricular clubs, giving up their own time to encourage the infant pupils to be active. We can’t wait to see our next group of Young Leaders be involved this year!

Young Leaders
Previously the P6/7 pupils receive a block of leadership training from our Active Schools Co-ordinator, Alison. During this training the pupils learn about organisation, communication, planning and other skills to help them deliver and assist with sports sessions.
Our newly trained Young Leaders practicing their skills with the P1/2 class.
Once the training is completed the pupils receive certificates and can then volunteer at lunchtime and after school clubs.
