What are P6M learning?

Spelling

The structure of our spelling programme has changed slightly. There will now be a phoneme or spelling rule to focus on each fortnight as well as 4 common or tricky words to revise.

Each fortnight there will be a note of the phoneme or rule and the words in the home-school notebook and on the blog.

This gives you the chance to discuss what has been learnt at home. Here are some ideas of activities you may wish to complete to practise:

  • Find words for your phoneme/rule: look in newspapers, online or in books
  • Practice writing out some of the words: do rainbow writing, pyramid writing, write backwards, alphabetical order, type them up…
  • Create your words out of string or in sand
  • Create a collage by cutting letters out of newspapers or magazines
  • Use them in a sentence or story
  • Do spell check or spelling ping pong with someone

Our focus for the next fortnight is:

Adding suffixes that start with vowels like ‘ing’ ‘ed’

1.You need to drop the silent ‘e’ from the end of the root word g. hope -> hoping

2. If the root word has a short vowel sound and then a consonant at the end you need to double the final consonant e.g. hop -> hopping

Common/tricky words:

dissolve, soluble, experiment, could
