As part of the Active Schools programme, Primary 4 and 5 are taking part in rugby training this term. At the moment this is taking place in the BP centre but hopefully as the weather improves, we’ll have the chance to get outside. Apologies for the blurry photos, just shows how ‘active’ the children were!!

We had fun on Friday, with visits from Highland dancers and pipers, followed by a taste of haggis,oatcakes and shortbread. In the afternoon, we had our Burns poetry recital final with V.I.P judges Mr Henry and Mrs Milne. In third place was Christopher with a funny poem about one of his favourite characters, Dr Fa. In second place was JJ who recited Hairdos by Helen Harrower, and in first place was Lewis with The Windfarm. Everyone who had a go at learning a poem received a certificate for taking part, and our 3 winners will be presented with their Burns Federation certificates in assembly on Tuesday. Thank you to all our visitors, especially our judges and  the ladies who served our lovely food.  🙂

Hello again! Well, what a surprise I got when I looked out of the window this morning!

Things to do today:

If you haven’t already seen it, click on the ‘cat in the snow’ link on the right in the Newsround RSS Feed section. The cat is very puzzled by his first experience of snow! Imagine you had never seen snow before, perhaps you’re an alien from Mars or perhaps you’ve lived in hot country all your life and have just moved to Scotland. I’d like you to write a short piece describing the first time someone experiences snow. Try to use your imagination and all of your senses…. how does it look, feel, sound?  Can you use a simile? (as…. as a……..   or …. like……)  Can you use alliteration? ( soft, silent snow) Either write on paper or add as a comment above.

Numeracy: even more tables practice and Maths Magician tables practice

Topic: Have a look at the Democracy Live website. You’ll also find the link in our Glow group, click on Topic, then 21st Century Citizens. You can watch either live or recorded footage from the Scottish Parliament, House of Commons and others.As we discussed in class, some of the discussions can be quite hard to follow, but have a look at the way that the different groups are seated, can you work out who is in charge? Who keeps things moving along and stops any arguments? How do people take turns to speak? Do you recognise anyone…. perhaps someone you’ve seen on the news? Are there differences between the Scottish Parliament and House of Commons? Are there similarities?

Hopefully many of you will check the blog, as we discussed in class last week. Here are some suggestions for things you could do at home today:

Numeracy:Practise your times tables. Make a set of cards or dominoes or play a board game, only moving if you get the correct answer!

The election will be open to parents and carers, to come along and vote for your favourite party and see what we have been learning about in Primary 5/19.

Click on the links on the right to try out 2 new games. Ghostblasters– use the arrows to choose the tables you want to practise, then shoot the  ghosties with those multiples. So if you choose 5 for example, shoot ghosties with 10,15,35,20 etc. Times tables quiz has 20 questions from the 6,7,8 and 9 times tables. Time yourself and see how speedy you can be!

Ma Grunny’s Cat

Ma Grunny’s cat his a muckle cat, twa metres lang, at least,

It’s  crabbit is the day is lang, a contermashios beast,

Its een are black, its lugs half-chawn, it spits and glowers aa day,

It’s nae the kinda beastie, yon, wi fit ye’d wint t’play.

It’s coorse, a cyard, it’s clivver tee, mair sleekit than the lave.

It’s jist the beast tae sort me oot fin I shid misbehave.

I’ve nivver seen ma grunny’s cat, an at’s an afa shame

Cause every time I visit her, the cat’s awa fae hame.
