CEOP Think you Know Secondary Summary of Resources

Thinkuknow Toolkit
The Thinkuknow Toolkit includes 15 activities designed for use with young people between the ages of 11–13 and 14 +. With clear practitioner guidance and engaging photocopiable learning materials, each activity gets young people thinking and talking about key issues related to sex, relationships and the internet, delivers safety messages, and encourages them to return to the Thinkuknow website in their own time. All resources for the games and activities are included.

Tom’s Story
Tom’s Story is aimed at children aged 11-13. The film covers the sensitive topic of contact sexual abuse which some learners may find distressing. It includes concepts such as grooming and online deception. At the end of the film learners are shown how to report to CEOP. Included in Thinkuknow toolkit but can be used stand alone.

Claire thought she knew
This film (2007) and accompanying resource will help children to learn that “stranger danger” is something they need to be very careful about in the online world and that they should only talk to people they know and trust in real life.  Included in Thinkuknow toolkit but can be used stand alone.

Matt thought he knew
The film is aimed at young people aged 11-13 and helps them to be able to identify that online contacts may not be who they say they are. The film is applicable to both boys and girls but highlights that boys can be vulnerable to grooming and abuse. Having watched the film, young people will be able to recognise some of the signs that an online relationship may not be safe.

Consequences
This film reinforces the importance of keeping personal information and images private. Young people are shown why they should use privacy settings and are reminded that sex offenders can be young and attractive people.

First to a Million
This series of films reinforces young people’s understanding of the possible consequences of online activity. Learners will be able to discuss respect for other people, the influence of peer pressure and competition and how these can affect judgement.

The World Changes. Children Don’t.
This short film for parents and carers tells the age-old story of Romeo and Juliet but with a modern twist. It shows how the lives of these young lovers might play out online today, including the Lark ‘tweeting’ and Romeo ‘friending’ Juliet.

Exploited
Exploited is an 18-minute film which helps young people learn to stay safe from sexual exploitation. It educates young people to identify features of an exploitative friendship or relationship in contrast with the development of a healthy relationship and gives them clear information about how to report abuse and access support.
