Mathematics: N4/N5
Recommended Entry Requirements:
- N4 Mathematics – Working within Level 3 of the BGE
- N5 Mathematics – We would normally expect N5 candidates to have completed N4 Maths and the N5 Numeracy module in S3.
Course Content:
Using mathematics enables us to model real-life situations and make connections and informed predictions. It equips us with the skills we need to interpret and analyse information, simplify and solve problems, assess risk and make informed decisions.
The following mathematical skills are covered:
- Numerical Skills
- Algebraic Skills
- Geometric Skills
- Trigonometric Skills
- Statistical Skills
Assessment:
- National 4 courses are internally assessed within schools.
- Candidates must complete the three unit assessments for the course and an ‘Added value unit’ which assesses material covered from across the entire course.
- National 5 courses are 100% externally assessed by formal exam.
- Candidates must complete two external examinations set by the SQA.
- Paper 1 – Non calculator
- Paper 2 – Calculator
