Course Content:
- Throughout this course, pupils develop a breadth of knowledge and understanding of music concepts and musical literacy. They learn to recognise and distinguish level-specific music concepts, signs and symbols as they perform, create and listen to music.
- The course allows candidates to develop and consolidate practical skills in music and knowledge and understanding of music styles and concepts. It encourages them to self-reflect and explore their creative ideas.
- Understanding music through listening enables pupils to build on and extend their knowledge and understanding of music and influences on music.
Assessment:
- You will be assessed through a performance (50%), a listening paper (35%) and a composition project (15%).
- In your performance you will be assessed on two instruments. The duration of the performance is 8 minutes ay National 5 which will be assessed by a visiting SQA examiner.
- In the listening paper you will demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of musical concepts by identifying important features within recordings.
- Your understanding of composition will be assessed through a project and a review which will be completed in class time throughout the year.

- Higher Music with a National 5 C or above
