National 4/5 Travel and Tourism is an introductory qualification in Travel and Tourism. It develops the skills, knowledge and attitudes needed for work in the travel and tourism industry. The skills developed are transferable into many other careers and support learners through their journey into employment.
Entry Requirements:
- Recommended (but not essential) S1-3 Geography, History, Modern Studies, French or Health and Food
- Good literacy skills and numeracy skills
- N4: Achieving level 3 in S3.
- N5: Achieving level 4 in S3.
Travel and Tourism is split up into four units:
Scotland: In this unit learners will investigate tourism in Scotland. Learners will develop their independent research and ICT skills as they learn about different tourist destinations and plan a holiday to Scotland. Learners will explore tourism trends, such as the impacts of Covid-19 on tourism, and the impacts of tourism in Scotland, specifically, the impact of cruise tourism.
UK & Worldwide: In this unit learners will investigate tourism in Europe and the wider world. Learners will develop their independent research and ICT skills as they learn about different tourist destinations and plan a full holiday. Learners will explore tourism trends and the impacts of tourism, such as the impacts of clubbing tourism in Spain and the impacts of ecotourism around the world.
Customer Service: In this unit learners will develop the knowledge and skills to allow them to interact with customers. They will learn how to promote products, communicate with customers in a variety of ways and how to deal with customer complaints. The skills developed within this unit are directly transferable into the workplace.
Employability: In this unit learners explore the range of careers available within the Travel and Tourism industry. In addition to researching careers that interest them, learners will learn about the careers of cabin crew, travel journalist, tour operator and travel agent.
Assessment:
The Travel and Tourism course is internally assessed, meaning that learners do not sit an exam. Throughout the year, learners will produce a portfolio of work to demonstrate their achievement. All assessment pieces within this portfolio must be completed.

At Brechin High School:
- National 5 Travel and Tourism (if National 4 has been completed the previous year)
- National 5 or Higher Geography
