Entry Requirements:
- Recommended (but not essential) S1-3 Geography
- Good literacy skills and numeracy skills
- N4: Achieving level 3 in S3.
- N5: Achieving level 4 in S3.
Course Content:
- Pupils study 3 units:
- Physical Environments: Glaciated uplands and coastal landscapes; associated land use, conflicts and solutions in these landscapes. Pupils will also study weather in a UK context.
- Human Environments: Factors influencing development and population structures in developed and developing countries; urban and rural areas in developed and developing countries.
- Global Issues: Pupils will study climate change – exploring the physical and human causes of climate change. Pupils will also explore the impacts and management strategies.
Assessment:
- Internal: End of topic tests based on the exam questions (results will generate a working grade for tracking purposes)
External:
- SQA Examination: 2 hours and 20 minutes, 80 marks.
- Assignment: 20 marks (a one hour ‘write up’ done under exam conditions and assessed externally by the SQA)
Progression Pathway:
- Higher Geography with a National 5 C or above.
- National 4/5 Travel and Tourism
- Geography has transferable skills to the other Social Subjects such as Modern Studies, History and RMPS.
