Entry Requirements:
- Recommended (but not essential) S1-3 History
- Good literacy skills
- N4: Achieving level 3 in S3.
- N5: Achieving level 4 in S3.
Course Content:
- Pupils study 3 units:
- Scottish: The Era of the Great War, 1910-1928
- British: Changing Britain 1760-1914 or The Making of Modern Britain, 1880-1951
- European and World: Hitler and Nazi Germany, 1918-1939 or Free At Last: USA 1918-1968
There is also an assignment for which candidates can choose a topic of interest related to the course research and then produce an essay style write up for assessment.
Assessment:
- Internal: Weekly tests based on the exam questions (results will generate a working grade for tracking purposes)
External:
- SQA Examination: 2 hours and 20 minutes, 80 marks.
- Assignment: 20 marks (a one hour ‘write up’ done under exam conditions and assessed externally by the SQA)
Progression Pathway:
- Higher History with a National 5 C or above.
- Advanced Higher History
- History has transferable skills to the other Social Subjects such as Modern Studies, Geography and RMPS.
