Weekly Round Up 28.10.22

We expanded on our interest in hospitals from last week and exploring bandages to help make our friends feel better. Then we made some stethoscopes….very important to let us hear the “bump bump bump in our heart”. We continued to build on our fine motor skills by making leaf garlands to decorate outside with, and playing in our spooky sensory tray.

Wednesday started with a visit from Frankie the guide dog and Mrs Johnstone, who told us all about Frankie’s extra special job! Plenty puddles to jump in this morning, and we investigated how much rain water we could collect in a pot. We went on a yoga halloween trail with cosmic kids, crouching like frogs and stretching like a witch on a broomstick 🧹 🧙‍♀️. Our baking team made some delicious apple crumble for afternoon snack using apples from our school trees.

We’ve started to get into the halloween spirit with our pumpkins, using our fine motor skills to safely add nails and screws to our pumpkins using hammers and screwdrivers, and making sure we remembered how to keep ourselves and our friends safe. We enjoyed our yoga yesterday so had some cosmic kids disco yoga today…lots of moves to the rhythm.

Weekly Round Up 16.09.22

This week we were using a variety of resources to think about first, next, then and finally (sequences). We extended our spray gun experience and despite them malfunctioning, we still managed to create something spectacular.

On Wednesday, while the baking team were making plum and oat muffins, the fire team were safely setting and lighting the fire. We enjoyed snack outside and a wee toasted marshmallow, yummy. We revisited painting with traditional equipment and created with some stretchy plastic pieces that made funny noises. We finished the day with some foraging in the community garden and found a caterpillar which we have re-homed with great comfort.

This week, we had a super day in the woods exploring the space, challenging our balance and problem solving and enjoying each other’s company. Well done everyone! Amazing team Auchterhouse!

Weekly Round up 02.09.22

On Tuesday, we were chatting about firefighters and thought a good place to start was with a fire engine. We worked together to take our weeds to the community compost and as a reward, enjoyed some strawberries and raspberries.

On Wednesday, we were thinking about the numbers we know and what they look like. We used the sand to mark make, asking our friends to guess. We were working well together and sharing ideas during dough gym. Our story’s character throws things so we have been practicing our aim with balls and bean bags.

At the end of the week, we asked the school secretary and all the pupils at Auchterhouse primary the same question: Is the Orangutan or the car heaviest?  After some research and data collecting, we finally agreed that the car is heavier.

On Friday, we challenged ourselves on our bikes and scooters with some obstacles to navigate. TALT (Team Auchterhouse Learning together) started this week and the nursery joined the school in exploring different experiences such as gardening, cooking and outside art. We heard the nursery worked really well, super job everyone!
