Word Fact: Intrusive vs. Obtrusive

Ever been shhh’d by me in the library and asked yourself, ‘Is the noise I’m making intrusive or obtrusive?’ No? 😉 Well, I bet you want to know now!

To be intrusive is to involve oneself into the affairs of others, generally in an objectionable manner, tactlessly but not necessarily in a way that calls attention to oneself. To be obtrusive, by contrast, is to interfere without regard for propriety or subtlety. – DailyWritingTips

Have a read of Dictionary.com‘s definition here. Example sentences might be, “Did it ever cross your mind that he might find all those questions you ask intrusive?” as opposed to, “The office manager is an unpleasantly obtrusive individual.”  🙂
