Say what you will about Trump, Putin, Kim Jong-un, et al, there’s no denying we live in interesting times. One ‘literary’ consequence of this appears to be the resurgence of key works of dystopian fiction. First 1984 made the bestseller list – “…the book has reached a 9,500 percent increase in sales..” – with the John Hurt film dusted off and aired on tv networks for the first time in since forever. Then it was the turn of Margaret Atwood’s prescient horror, The Handmaid’s Tale, with a similar surge in sales, and then the critically acclaimed Hulu adaptation. And now the latest cult classic to get some love is Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451; a new film adaptation is currently in development: HBO is adapting Fahrenheit 451 into a film starring Michael B. Jordan and Michael Shannon
