Library Karaoke!

Congrats to JG for compèring our hugely successful – and enjoyable – Christmas Karaoke sessions!

Pupils delivered fabulously festive renditions of favourite Christmas carols and belted out crowd-pleasing hits like Jesse J’s Price Tag, etc. Who knew Brechin High School had so many talented singers – we had solos and duets from Karolina, Chloe, Ellie, Zara, Samantha, and Martyna, plus an all-girl group featuring beautiful harmonising from Freya, Gwen, Kerris and Kaitlyn – to name but a few.

Miss Stewart kicked things off with her, erm, attempt at ‘fifties cool’; crooning the Dino ‘King of Cool’ Martin classic, Mambo Italiano. Che figata! JG delivered a high drama, gravelly, bass-baritone tribute to the one and only ‘Man in Black’, Johnny Cash, with Ring of Fire. Other highlights included Miss Stewart and Mrs Alexander’s stunning and choreographed (!) duet of ABBA’s decade-defining, glamtastic seventies Europop, Dancing Queen – Mrs A was Agnetha; Miss S, Annifrid, just in case you were wondering…

Stealing the show however – without any doubt – was our guest star and most-excellent Deputy Head, Mr Funai! Effortlessly holding the audience in the palm of his hand, Mr Funai sang, It’s Getting Better – with Mrs A and Miss Stewart on backing vocals. Adoring fans agreed that Mr Funai’s turn in the spotlight – a moving homage to the late, great, Cass Elliot (aka, Mama Cass. Google her kids; she was amazing!) – was LEGEND.

And who knows? Maybe we at Brechin High School should take Mama Cass’s lyrics to our hearts?

 “Getting better everyday, better everyday”

P.S. If pupils are keen on making karaoke sessions a regular lunchtime feature in their library all they have to do is ask! :’)
