Go4SET Success
For the second year running Northfield Academy has won a trophy in the Go4SET competition.
The Go4SET competition is for a team of S2 pupils. In November the team, Kacey Bruce, Kirsty Leslie, Hannah Milne, Lucia McDonald and Joshua Currie, attended a launch event where they participated in some team building activities and selected the challenge they would tackle. From November until February the team worked with Balfour Beatty to research the building materials, heating and energy supply for an eco classroom that they would like to see built at Northfield Academy. They also designed the classroom, built a model to represent their ideas, created posters to tell their story and wrote a report of their findings.
As part of the challenge each pupil completed enough research to achieve a Silver CREST award which is a nationally recognised award.
During the final on the 18th February the team presented to two judges as well as discussing their classroom with other pupils, teachers and visitors. The judging was very close this year but Northfield Academy were awarded the Teamwork Award as they had demonstrated an excellent team spirit.

Estimate Exam Arrangements
Assessment Week
Assessment week for S4/5/6 pupils starts on Monday 1st February 2016 and finishes on Friday 5th February 2016. Pupils must attend school as usual and follow their normal timetable. Pupils will be expected during this week to bring material to study for their next exam into school each day. Pupils will be permitted to leave their normal class to attend timetabled examinations only. Timetables have been issued to all pupils, but should another timetable be required extra copies are available from the school reception.
Seat Numbers
Each pupil will be allocated an individual seat number for each exam that they sit. The seat number will change for each exam and pupils must sit in the correct seat. Seat numbers will be displayed in the main corridor of the school on the morning of each exam. Pupils must check their seat number before entering the exam hall.
Illness
If your son/daughter is ill on the day of an exam, please contact Mrs Jane Hunter, School Support Services Manager.
School Uniform
School uniform must be worn during the assessment week.
Lateness
Pupils must appear in good time for their exams. In certain exams no late arrivals are admitted. For other exams it is at the discretion of the Chief Invigilator. If someone has already left the Examination room, then no latecomers are admitted. Pupils should be at their examination room 5 minutes before exams are to begin.
Equipment
All pupils are expected to take with them the writing equipment they need. It is surprising how many do not have pens, pencils, rulers or rubbers. In addition specialist items, eg calculators, dictionaries should be brought. If a pupil has any difficulty supplying these items he/she should contact the class teacher or his/her Guidance teacher.
Mobile Phones
Please note that at no time should pupils take a mobile phone into the examination room either for speaking to someone or sending a text message. If a pupil is found to be in possession of a mobile phone, or any other electronic device, his/her examination entry will be cancelled. The SQA has very clear and firm rules on this.
National Courses
During the assessment week, in addition to the timetabled National 5 estimate exams, departments will be assessing pupils for National 4 qualifications. It is therefore essential that pupils who are not sitting any timetabled exams attend school during the assessment week.
Exam Results
Departments will issue results to candidates as soon as possible.
If you have any questions about the exam process please contact Mrs Hunter.
Numerous extra study sessions are provided by our staff out-with the school day. Please encourage your son/daughter to make use of these opportunities to maximise their potential exam success. Details of this year’s Easter Revision school will be coming out very soon. This year’s Easter school will run on Monday 4th and Tuesday 5th of April.
We wish your son/daughter every success in the exams.

Girlguiding
1st Anderson Rainbows in Northfield are looking for volunteers!
Rainbows is the youngest section of the Girlguiding organisation, and we need volunteers to help out at our weekly meetings. It’s a great experience, especially for those who wish to enter primary teaching at university, other childcare qualifications, or for those taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh award for their volunteering section.
If you are a girl aged 14 or over, then this is an extremely worthwhile way to spend your time. Also, girls between 16 to 18 can start a Young Leadership Qualification. We meet weekly in the Northfield area between 5:30 and 6:30 on Wednesdays.
For more information about what we do please visit http://www.girlguiding.org.uk/get_involved/volunteer/faqs.aspx, where you can also sign up.
Senior Phase Choices
Attached below are the Senior Phase Choice Booklet and the form that pupils moving into S4, S5 or S6 will need to complete and return by the 12th of February 2016.

PSAs do 12 Days of Christmas
You didn’t ask for it….
No-one wanted it…
But they did it anyway!
Funding from the school sponsored walk fund enabled the Library to buy several Lego education kits and set up a new lunchtime club. First meeting in October 2015, Lego club has members from S1-S4.
We set ourselves the challenge of recreating the John Lewis advert using Lego. We had great fun making it and hope you like it!
