Ardeonaig Adventures Day 3

On day 3 of our Ardeonaig adventures we have: perfected our Robin Hood skills (nearly!) in archery ,  climbed up mini waterfalls in gorge walking,  stood in boats in the middle of water and have acted like Spider-Man on the high ropes. It has been another great day! We have also been working on our cleaning skills!!

Ardeonaig Adventures Day 2

We have had a great first full day at Ardeonaig! We have been climbing hills, having mud baths, racing boats, buildings shelters, planting trees and viewing beautiful scenery! We have learnt how to work together in a team, support and encourage each other and achieve new goals! We are having a great time!

Culture Week!

We have really enjoyed culture week! The country we were learning about was Hungary. We learnt about: the history of Hungary, festivals they celebrate, traditional food and dress . We particularly enjoyed learning head, shoulders, knees and toes in Hungarian and learning a traditional singing game, a bit like oranges and lemons. We successfully managed to perform both head shoulders, knees and toes and the game in the ‘Around the World in 60 minutes’ sharing assembly on the Friday.

Highlights of the week have also included learning to play the drums with Drumfun, seeing the Watato choir perform, taking part in Bollywood inspired Zumba and having visitors to our classroom. It has been a busy but fun week!

Bag packing at Sainsburys Berryden

On Saturday 5th March 2016, we all went to Sainsburys, Berryden and helped the public pack their shopping bags.  We were trying to raise money for the coach for our end of year trip to Ardeonaig in May.DSC02509

There was quite a lot of people shopping that day, we all enjoyed helping other people and had fun. DSC02510

We found that the public were very generous and donated their money even if we didn’t pack their bags and were interested in why we were raising the money.DSC02511

Some of us found it very tiring and had sore arms after lifting all the heavy products.

We would like to thank the public who donated their money to us, we managed to raise a MASSIVE amount of money…….(drum-roll please) £925 ! This has paid for our bus to and from Ardeonaig!

Our visit to the Gordon Highlanders Museum

Our trip around Aberdeen

We walked round Rosemount looking for evidence of WWII.

Curling

We were invited to the Aberdeen Curling arena to try a new sport. Some of the Primary 7’s thoughts before they went to the Curling arena were: boring; don’t think it will be fun; just throwing a stone on ice; nervous about falling on the ice and the stones would be tiny.

During our visit we learnt that one of our feet had to have grip and the other had to be slidey, when curling the stone in addition the stone weighed 3 stone and was quite difficult to move. The points area was called the house. We also learnt that the word ‘ICE’ in curling is a safe word in case a stone is coming towards you and you cannot move away. We also learnt how to make the stones go further, which was hard work as we had to sweep really fast.

After our visit we are excited to learn more about Curling and our thoughts have changed, we think it is:  “a lot harder than we thought,” and “stones were a lot heavier and a good experience.”

Christmas Enterprise with the Silver City Surfers

For the last month, P7 have been participating in a very exciting enterprise project with The Silver City Surfers, a local charity with an aim to help older people with modern technology. Every Tuesday afternoon the P7s have been working in groups along with Silver Surfers to research and design a Christmas decoration for the school Christmas fair. We have been very fortunate to have had help and advice from John Lewis and Gray’s School of Art with our Christmas decoration design project. We can’t wait to reveal them to you at the fair on Thursday!
