Some of the ladies which run the Charity – ‘Befriend a Child’ came in to tell us how they become involved in this area of work and what the Charity supports.
We learned a lot about how we can help when we are older and we even met Cuddles the cheeky Kangaroo!
This week, Primary 6 have participated in ‘Flood Awareness Week’ along with some other classes at Fernielea. Â We have completed lots of activities to help us learn more about different types of flooding, which types of flooding we are most at risk from and how to help ourselves and others if an emergency flooding situation occurs.
On Wednesday 8th March, we had some visitors from Generation Science. Â They entertained us with their interactive presentation on renewable and non-renewable energy. Â They explained to us how both types of energy works. Â It was very inspiring, interesting and made us think about the ways in which we use energy at home.
This week, some classes at Fernielea School got to use a fantastic resource called Google Expeditions.
Using the Google Expeditions goggles and a smartphone, you can see places around the world that many of us have never seen before, it was fantastic! Â We had so many questions, we could have spent all day there learning about what we were seeing through our goggles!
Have a look at this website which will provide even more information and show Google Expeditions in action!
This week in Science, Primary 6 have been investigating how electricity works. Â We have experimented using some design challenges and are now able to discuss which objects will conduct electricity and why.
We will be using this knowledge and skills to draw our own electric circuits using the correct symbols.
Primary 6 have been learning about the Victorians this term.
We have been working with Allan Paterson to learn all about Victorian Aberdeen. Â Mr Paterson visited the class to share lots of interesting information about Aberdeen in the Victorian times, then took us on a Victorian trail to see some of the buildings for ourselves!
We finished our trip with a visit to the Maritime Museum. Â We got to see examples of Victorian toys and clothing – they were very different from our toys and clothing today!
