Author study.

We have been learning more about Roger Hargreaves and his series of Mister Men and Little Miss books. It has been such fun! We have produced artwork and made puppets based on his illustrations. This included using the computers to draw our favourite characters.

The children wrote descriptions based on the characters and worked really hard at writing the letters correctly and using finger spaces. Most of us are still getting used to writing on lines, so we need to work on our letters that go under the line.

Without doubt the highlight of the week was the “Guess the Mr Man or Little Miss” quiz. Tension and excitement flowed through the room as we heard messages from characters in the stories. Each message gave a few clues to who it may have been and the children had to work in teams to circle the correct person. It would’ve made a great TV show!

Roger Hargreaves author study.

Roger Hargreaves was an author and illustrator from the fine county of Yorkshire. He is most famous for his “Mr Men” and “Little Miss” stories. As part of our author study, we have been reading some of his funny books and writing descriptive words about the characters.

So far the most popular character has been Mr Bump, who has kept us all entertained with his clumsy adventures.  The children particularly enjoy his habit of walking into static objects, although it should be noted that it is not advised to copy this at home or in the playground.

In the forthcoming weeks, we will be learning about Mr Bump’s friends and trying to invent our own Mr Men and Little Miss characters based on our own personalities. It should be fun!
