P4hs Blog Update 2.9.22

We have been learning lots of new things in Primary 4hs!

In Literacy, we have been exploring descriptive writing. We discussed different adjectives we can use to describe a character and a setting, and we have also written a creative story about a robot already. We are going to use this new knowledge to help with our writing to enter the West Lothian Bathgate Hills writing competition!

In numeracy we have been revising place value and we can now use this to help us with our addition and subtraction using carrying. In maths we have been exploring shape and symmetry.

We have been reading an exciting novel called “The Wild Robot” to go along with our technology topic. We have explored our novel through our writing and expressive arts where we recreated the front cover using monochrome effects. We even learnt a bit about coding!

We have been enjoying P4 so far and look forward to learning all about the Egyptians next!

P4s Blog Update 2.9.22

P4s have had a great start to the year. We have been working hard to make our classroom feel like our own and have already learnt so much about each other. We have worked together to create a class charter and rules that we have all agreed to work hard to follow to help make our classroom a respectful, responsible and enjoyable space to learn.

In Maths we have been focussing on symmetry: “…we learnt that some shapes have more than one line of symmetry”. In Numeracy, we have been reminding ourselves about place value and have recently started practicing our chimney sums using addition.

We are reading a really exciting class novel at the moment called The Wild Robot and have explored the story through writing, using lots of adjectives and through Art… re-creating the front cover using paint.

We have a special guest in our classroom called Jigsaw Jino. He is helping us explore our first Health and Wellbeing topic, Being me in my World.

Oh, and we can bring our own devices into class too which is very exciting!

P6W Blog Update 2.9.22

September 2nd  Primary 6W Blog

In literacy we have been creating descriptive texts using our class novel, “The Twits” and our topic on “Russia” as inspiration. We discussed different interesting places in Russia to visit and then wrote about how we thought it would look and feel to visit there. We wrote about St Basil’s Cathedral, The Kremlin, The Kungar Caves and Kizhi Island.

In numeracy, we have been revising place value and how to use this to help with mental maths strategies.  We have been learning about factors of numbers and identifying multiples. In Maths, we have been looking at different ways to calculate time intervals.

In IDL, we have been working on our Russian topic.  We have looked at Atlases to find the major cities, mountains and lakes in Russia.  We have also investigated the different biomes/ climates within Russia.

In science we have been investigating different types of energy.  First we looked and potential and kinetic energy.  We carried out some experiments using pencils and elastic bands to show how energy changes from potential to kinetic. We have also been comparing non- renewable and renewable energies.  We have researched where each of the energies comes from and how it is converted for use in our homes.

In PE we have been improving our gymnastic skills by working on different rolls and jumping on and off a vault. In Health and wellbeing we have been learning about our place in the World and how we can ensure our, and other peoples’ rights are being met.

On Monday, we were lucky enough to have a panto company perform in school.  We watched a fabulous performance of “Oliver Twist.”
