P4s Blog Update 2.9.22

P4s have had a great start to the year. We have been working hard to make our classroom feel like our own and have already learnt so much about each other. We have worked together to create a class charter and rules that we have all agreed to work hard to follow to help make our classroom a respectful, responsible and enjoyable space to learn.

In Maths we have been focussing on symmetry: “…we learnt that some shapes have more than one line of symmetry”. In Numeracy, we have been reminding ourselves about place value and have recently started practicing our chimney sums using addition.

We are reading a really exciting class novel at the moment called The Wild Robot and have explored the story through writing, using lots of adjectives and through Art… re-creating the front cover using paint.

We have a special guest in our classroom called Jigsaw Jino. He is helping us explore our first Health and Wellbeing topic, Being me in my World.

Oh, and we can bring our own devices into class too which is very exciting!

P6W Learning Blog 18.3.22

Literacy

In literacy we have been investigating how to create a range of texts from notes that we have made.  We began by researching information about famous Russians and then created a biography.  Now we are making notes on the advantages and disadvantages of renewable/ non- renewable energies in order to write a persuasive piece of writing called an exposition.  We celebrated book week by joining in with lots of book week related tasks – we created a school relay story, we joined in with a BBC Live Lesson and Mrs Welsh went to the book shop to collect our free book.  We are looking forward to adding these to our “First Minister’s Reading Passport.”

Numeracy

In numeracy we have been learning  strategies for long multiplication and division including the “chimney method” and the “grid method.”  Miss Foote came to do our number talk with us on Tuesday and she was “blown away” with our mental arithmetic skills.  In Maths, we have been developing our understanding of increasingly complex shapes – polygons and quadrilaterals.

IDL

As part of Science fortnight, our topic work has had a STEM focus.  We have been nurturing our eggs in their incubator.  On Monday, we learned how to “candle” our eggs to see if any of them contained a growing chick.  Unfortunately , it doesn’t look like the eggs have developed into chicks but we are hoping to have another try after the Easter holidays.  Fingers crossed that we have better luck the next time.  We were also using our engineering and problems solving skills to build the tallest tower possible using just spaghetti and mini marshmallows and creating a paper bridge strong enough to hold 15 unifix cubes.

We have had a number of pupil led lessons since our last blog.  This is where one of the pupils in class has an opportunity to teach the rest of the class a skill they are really good at.  We have had a great lessons on Coding, Football Skills and Origami.

RME

In RME we have been learning about festivals from across the world and how they link to religion. We were making connections between British Pancake day and Russian Maslanitsa Day.  We made our own pancakes to celebrate. This also involved us using our reading skills and measuring skills in order to follow the recipe accurately.

We have also been discussing the importance of Holy week to Christians and looking at famous works of art that illustrate the key events of Holy Week. Do you recognise any?

Assembly

We are all VERY excited to be having our first, whole school assembly in over 2 years tomorrow!
