P5m Blog

In Primary 5 we have been very busy.

We were learning about Thomas Telford. EW
He was an architect who designed bridges. HG
He designed different types of bridges. JL
He was a stonemason from Dumfriesshire. NY
He also designed canals and roads.  TE
He was born in 1757 and died in 1834. KP/ TE

We made bridges and they were meant to be able to hold a cup of marbles. Most of them succeeded. CC
We used straws, paper, card, tape, rubber bands and string to make them. HM
We worked really hard and it took two lessons to finish. JL
It was really hard to make it stand and to balance and to make it strong. JWF
We worked in teams to make them. KP
We worked in teams because it would take too long to work by ourselves. HM

P4p Blog!

Hello everyone!

This week in gymnastics we have been using climbing apparatus to practise our balance, jumping and coordination. The frame was a huge hit. K said she loved our P.E lesson because using the different equipment is fun. C said he was glad to get on the horse to practise his balance skills too.

We are are developing our love for reading by using our First ministers reading challenge passports. We are choosing books we love and read them independently.

Thanks for reading!

P5mw Blog 22.02.2022

In Spanish, we have been learning about dates including numbers, the days of the week and the months of the year. We can say our birthdays in Spanish.

We have been enjoying learning about 2D and 2D Shape in Maths. We know that parallelograms have two pairs of parallel sides. Some 2D shapes have only one side. An octagon has eight sides. We learned about four different types of triangles – isosceles, equilateral, scalene and right-angled triangle. We found out that you can also have a right-angled isosceles or a right-angled scalene triangle. We can describe the properties of 2D and 3D Shapes including sides, angles, vertices and faces.

In PE, we have been having lots of fun working on ball skills and playing ball games. We have been passing the ball to each other using different types of passes. We have been playing small-sided team games.

In Numeracy, we have been learning the seven and eight times tables and looking at different ways of dividing larger numbers. We are now learning about Fractions. We know that in a fraction the number at the top is called the numerator and the number at the bottom is called the denominator. We are looking forward to learning more about Fractions.

We enjoyed our Science experiments that we have been doing as part of our IDL work. As part of our learning about Alexander Graham bell, we made our very own cup and string telephone. The sound was captured by the cup and travelled by vibrations along the string to the other cup. We also liked doing the mould experiment. We grew mould by putting bread and water in a bag and leaving it in a dark place for a week. At the end of the 7 days, we found lots of mould on the bread. This is how Alexander Fleming discovered Penicillin.

In writing, I have enjoyed writing discussion texts because you get to write about both sides of the argument and give your own opinion.

We have also been trying out some new reading materials and comprehension activities, these have been very interesting and we have enjoyed them because they are more challenging.

P5mw have been working hard to improve our handwriting. We have been trying our best to join our writing and keep our work well presented.
