P6bw Learning Blog

Literacy: In Literacy, P6bw have been working on our note taking skills. We have been learning how to condense the information we have read from a variety of sources and can put them into bullet point notes. Using these notes, we have then been able to create a biography text and we are working towards creating an exposition piece currently.

Numeracy: In Numeracy we have been working hard to learn and remember our times table facts. This has been beneficial for the revision block of long multiplication and division strategies we have been looking at over the last few weeks. Some strategies that we have used have included grid method, column method, bus stop method and repeated subtraction ( chunking) method. In maths, we have been refreshing our knowledge of 2D shapes and have extended this to include more complex 2D shapes such as quadrilaterals and polygons.

IDL: There has been a whole school focus on Science this week in line with British Science Week and we have been participating in a range of different experiments such as making stretchy slime, building the tallest tower using only spaghetti and marshmallows and making origami virus and antibody cells. One of our groups made stretchy slime that measured over 6 metres long!!!! We have also looked at renewable and non renewable energy sources and have linked this to our exposition writing for Literacy.

Health and Wellbeing: In Health and Wellbeing we have been looking at food and how a healthy diet plays a vital role in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. For P.E we have been learning the skills and techniques used in Basketball and have progressed to playing some mini games of this. We have also done some orienteering, developing our map reading and problem solving skills as well as our fitness.

P4ps Blog It! March 2022

Hello Everyone!

We have been enjoying our topic about Robert the Bruce and William Wallace. We have learnt a lot about the Scottish Wars of Independence and will be delivering a talk about what we have enjoyed the most so far.

Last week was also STEAM week. This stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. We had great fun combining many of these skills to fit through a single piece of paper and creating our own obstacle course in P.E.

Another highlight from last week was the return of the whole school assembly, we enjoyed it very much and cannot wait to attend more.

Now we are going to make sure we continue to work hard in all our curricular areas before we break up for the Easter holidays.

P5m Blog Update – Week ending 18th March

Over the last few weeks we have heard a lot of our class novel, Danger Gang. It’s very good and we think it’s a book that everyone should read. It’s about a boy called Frankie who writes diary entries to his friends because he moved house to Freaky Town. Lots of freaky things happen in Freaky Town.

In Art, we have been learning about sketching and we have been completed a sketch of an apple, rather than colouring it we had to shade it. We had to concentrate hard and follow the instructions carefully. We liked the clip that reminded us of what to do.

We learnt about Moses in RME, Moses freed the people of Israel. We painted a picture to show what happened in the story. We also split a page in our jotter into 4 and drew pictures to represent the parting of the Red Sea, Moses throwing down the staff, the burning bush and the 10 commandments.

In topic, we have been learning about eco-friendly inventions. We created our own and made them out of Lego. One group made an eco-friendly car, another group made a robot that can turn into a house, car and plane and a third group made a caravan. It was a fun activity because we got to use our creativity skills to make what we wanted and that would be good for the environment.

We were learning about quantities in Maths and fractions in Numeracy. We learnt that the top of the fraction was the numerator, the bottom was the denominator and that an improper fraction had a bigger number on the top than the bottom. We also now know about mixed fractions. The mixed number fractions were tricky but we persevered until we managed it. The final thing we did with our fractions this week was to simplify them. We had to use our division skills a lot when simplifying.

In Writing, we have been learning about expositions. We have been looking at different arguments and deciding what we agree with.
