Literacy: In Literacy, P6bw have been working on our note taking skills. We have been learning how to condense the information we have read from a variety of sources and can put them into bullet point notes. Using these notes, we have then been able to create a biography text and we are working towards creating an exposition piece currently.
Numeracy: In Numeracy we have been working hard to learn and remember our times table facts. This has been beneficial for the revision block of long multiplication and division strategies we have been looking at over the last few weeks. Some strategies that we have used have included grid method, column method, bus stop method and repeated subtraction ( chunking) method. In maths, we have been refreshing our knowledge of 2D shapes and have extended this to include more complex 2D shapes such as quadrilaterals and polygons.
IDL: There has been a whole school focus on Science this week in line with British Science Week and we have been participating in a range of different experiments such as making stretchy slime, building the tallest tower using only spaghetti and marshmallows and making origami virus and antibody cells. One of our groups made stretchy slime that measured over 6 metres long!!!! We have also looked at renewable and non renewable energy sources and have linked this to our exposition writing for Literacy.
Health and Wellbeing: In Health and Wellbeing we have been looking at food and how a healthy diet plays a vital role in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. For P.E we have been learning the skills and techniques used in Basketball and have progressed to playing some mini games of this. We have also done some orienteering, developing our map reading and problem solving skills as well as our fitness.
