Primary 6W Blog Update
We have been very busy in P6 since returning from Christmas break. We have welcomed our teaching student, Miss McAdam, who will be working with us until February 24th
Literacy
We have been linking our literacy work to our Scottish Focus Fortnight in school. We have been reading The Eejits in Scots and trying to translate it back to English. We have been reading some of Mrs Welsh’s old Oor Wullie and Broons books in order to help us create our own comic strips. We have been using scots dictionaries to find the scots equivalent for our spelling words and we have been learning to recite a piece of Scottish poetry as part of our Robert Burns Recital. We also had a Vertical Learning afternoon where we mixed with pupils form P5 and other teachers to learn different aspects of Scottish literature. With Mrs Welsh, we were learning about the importance of Scots Gaelic and how to say numbers and colours in Gaelic too.
This week we have been linking writing to our Scottish Myths and Legends topic by researching, identifying and writing about the differences between myths and legends in different cultures.
Numeracy and Maths
In numeracy we have been developing our ability to solve and simplify a range of algebraic equations and in maths we have been working on different ways to identify position and movement. This has included revision how to use coordinates in both 1 and 4 quadrants and how to identify, label and measure angles using a protractor. We have also been using Plickers to demonstrate our learning.
Others
In PE we have been learning the skills needed to play both handball and tennis. In Health we have been discussing how friendships can change over time and how to resolve conflicts.
As part of Chinese New Year celebrations, we had a go at making Chinese Chicken Noodle Soup. By doing this we were developing our skills in chopping, slicing, grating and boiling.
