This term our new topic is Scottish Wars of Independence and we have been learning about some of Scotland’s heroes and other significant people such as – William Wallace, Robert the Bruce, King Edward I, King Alexander, Margaret the Maid of Norway, John Balliol and King Edward III. We have started to create our own fact files on William Wallace which we are looking forward to sharing with P4s.
We are busy preparing for our up and coming assembly on Friday 10th February. We have started to learn our lines and songs for our performance. We are so excited and we hope to see you all there to share our learning.
We have also been learning our Scottish poems. We each had to choose a poem and learn it to recite to the class. It was lovely to hear all our poems and we enjoyed using scots language.
We are just about finished our class novel ‘The Christmasaurus and the Winter Witch’ and once finished we will be moving on to our new novel ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid in scots – Diary of a Wimpy wean!
Primary 4 are lucky enough to be given the opportunity to work with a Mandarin Teacher, Miss Liao every Monday afternoon from now until the Easter break. We really enjoyed our first lesson where Miss Liao introduced us to her home country, China, and we learned about traditions and celebrations that take place at Chinese New Year. This year is the year of the rabbit.
In expressive arts we are learning about Scottish artists, Gillian Kyle and Nikki Monaghan. We have completed some artwork in the styles of each artist. We particularly enjoyed creating our landscapes in the style of Nikki Monaghan’s ‘Fields of Silver.
We have started our multiplication and division topic in numeracy which we are really enjoying.
