Primary 5mw Blog October 22nd 2021

Primary 5mw have been working very hard in class and are learning lots of new things this term.

We have started a new topic all about Australia. We are looking forward to learning about the people, the food and about Australian cities such as Melbourne and Sydney. We will also be focusing on climate and conservation as part of this topic. In Art, we have been learning about an Australian artist named Ken Done. Ken Done creates colourful artworks of famous Australian landmarks. We created our own art in the style of Ken Done. We used crayon to draw the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House. Then we used watercolour paint to colour the background.

In Maths we enjoyed exploring Time last term and this term we are going to be learning about Measure. We have been estimating lengths and measuring lengths in cm using a ruler.

We are looking forward to taking part in cross-country in our PE this term.

We had fun learning about Volcanoes and other natural disasters. We found out about how Volcanoes can be active, dormant or extinct.

We have also been reading a new class novel called Scare at Shadow Fayre. It is a spooky story about shadows coming to life. We can’t wait to read more to find out what happens next in the story! In writing we are focusing on descriptions. This week we were writing descriptions of a lava monster. We know that a good description needs to include adjectives and ambitious vocabulary.

Primary 5mw have been busy with some Autumn gardening tasks. This week we planted bulbs into pots. We are going to look after them and help them to grow. We are looking forward seeing them grow in the Spring!
